In advance, thanks for all the input; I have learned a lot from fellow
forum members here re: the best ways to make my Sprint PCS experience
fairly manageable, and hope I can glean something useful from everyone
again now.
I have the following plan, which expires 3/26/05, at the end of a two
year contract. Prior to that, I was on a lesser $/minutes plan, with
only one phone (I currently have two on the account):
$100.00 PCS Free & Clear Plan
Minutes Are Shared On This Plan
All Minutes Include Long Distance
2000 Anytime Minutes
Nights: M-Th 9PM-7AM Wknd: F 9PM-M 7AM
Unlimited Night and Weekend Minutes
Unlimited PCS to PCS Calling
Unlimited "shortmail" for what it's worth (I have Sanyo 8100's)
Unlimited picture sending (see previous line..)
Unlimited Vision usage (I use it quite a bit, actually..)
I also have F&C America added for $5/month, which covers both phones. I
have vision service on both phones, which was included at my plan
level. Total = $105/month plus taxes. Next month I will be eligible for
$150 handset credits (18 months) on both phones. I have always paid my
bill on time, and (barely) complained after various Sprint screwups in
the past.
I (potentially, depending) would like to add (at least) two more phones
to my account, all with the same features (Vision, F&C America,
Unlimited PCS to PCS minutes), as my in-laws currently also have Sprint
PCS as their carrier and an expiring account soon, and with unlimited
PCS to PCS minutes all four phones are still not likely to challenge
the 2000 anytime minutes in my current plan.
I have done some investigating here and there, but resigned myself to
the fact that posters to this site are much more knowledgeable about
current plans being offered, both new and retention-types, then I. So,
that said (and everyones' egos stroked), what might I realistically
hope for $-wise when considering a new plan? I'd like to stay at about
the same 2000 minutes level..
What might my chances be in getting the new (at least 2) phones added
for free, with all the same amenities (Vision, PCS to PCS, F&C
America)? How about activation charges on them waived? I was offered
several months ago, via email, the 5% retention plan to sign up for two
more years, which I obviously didn't jump at, hoping to find something
better as my current contract comes to a close..
One additional question.. the two (at least) new phones I'd like to
add, as mentioned previously, are already on the PCS network, but
residing in a different area code than my own (about 90 miles away). If
they were to be added, what is the possibility of keeping the same
telephone numbers for them?
I appreciate any and all advice; I will be contacting Sprint soon to
see what they "officially" offer, but trust the information shared here
as a great starting-off point.

Hi Cereal ... First off, that plan does not expire. Your two year commitment
will expire, and until you make any changes in plans, SPCS will keep you on
that plan.

That's a good plan. I have had it in the past and with your level of monthly
payments, SPCS may indeed work a deal with you once your annual agreement
expires. When my annual agreement expired, I called the retention dept, had
them look at the minutes used for all three of our phones, and changed to a
customized monthly plan. I moved down to 1200 minutes a month, and got a
deal for $60/mo.for all three phones & PCS2PCS, added the $5 F & CA option,
and Vision for my phone and my daughters for $20 more. Total cost of my plan
is $85 + Taxes & Surcharges less the 5% discount I received as well.
Long story short, you need to look over your usage of your current 2 phones
and your 2 phones you want to add. If you plan on doing a lot of PCS2PCS
calling, those minutes don't need to be counted.
Call SPCS, ask for the retention dept. If you can't get transferred to them,
hang up, call back and say "Cancel" during the voice prompt.
When you get the rentention dept, don't threaten to leave. Just say that
since your 2 year annual agreement is about to expire, you;ve been very
happy with your SPCS service, but that you've been looking at what the
competition is offering and ask whether they can match a similar deal. (IOW,
know what the competition is offering before you call them).

When you do call up SPCS, you need to have all your needs for minutes,
usage, Vision on some or all the phones, new phones, etc, written down on
paper so that you can discuss everything at one time.
I mentioned this because SPCS will want to lock you in on a 2 year agreement
for all phones for the new deal, if you can get the other two phones added @
additional charge. If you take advantage of the phone rebates, after cutting
a new retention deal, SPCS will add an additional two years to your
commitment, for a total of 4 years. You need to see whether you can get a
two year agreement for the new plan and the phones at the same time.
Whoever you speak to, reaffirm everything you've discussed one more time,
get the person's name and their ID number and ask them to confirm all the
details of your new plan, phone rebates etc. via email. It will help both
you and SPCS if something shows up differently in the monthly statement
following the change in plans, etc.

It shouldn't be a problem ...

Good luck. Let us know how it works out.
