Question on the Samsung i500

What service do I need to put on the phone to gain access to my own pop3
email server? I want to check my own email. The sales person said I could
check hotmail and yahoo... anything on the internet from the phone but I'm
not like the common everyday user so I don't think she understood what I
want to do. I don't use those 'throw away' email services like yahoo and
hotmail. I have about four email addresses I want to check and all are pop3
addresses, not mapi. What service do I need? Somewhere I saw something about
Personal Business Service from Sprint. Is that what I need? and if so, what
are the charges? I ended up on a site that mentioned it but didn't say what
the charges were. It looked like you needed to sign up for it first and that
isn't going to happen. I want to know what I'm getting into before I sign
up. I can't find that link anymore though.

I don't really care for the vision plan but I do want what ever is the
cheapest AND have access to my pop3 mail. If vision is cheaper than Personal
Business Services and I can get pop3 with it then it's OK but I want to make
100% sure.

Yes, you want a Vision option added to your Sprint voice plan. The Vision
service gives you Internet access from which you can then poll/access your
POP3 email servers. You do not need Personal Business Services or whatever
that is called, which I believe is primarily a mechanism to talked to your
desktop Outlook client.

You will need to load a POP3 email client onto your i500. There are several
available: Eudora is probably the best free client, whereas Snappermail is a
popular email client that costs $$. Eudora is packaged as a part of Qualcomm's
EIS and is a free download.

You should try to get the $10/mo version of Vision for your i500 since none of
that other "pack" stuff makes sense for the i500 (ringers, games, picture
sending are all irrelevant to the i500).

Do the more expensive packs give you cheaper access to ringers &
games?

There is no way to take advantage of these features on the i500 at all. I
called and asked about it and the rep told me when my two month trial is up
to call and they will adjust the price to reflect $10 instead of $15 for
just this reason. I could care less about the rest of the vision plan
though, all I wanted was access to the Internet and my pop3 email. The rest
are just toys and cnsidering the limited space on the phone anyway, there's
no reason for it. The email and Internet work flawlessly though, I love it
and I'm not paying $50 per month + like I was with Nextel.

Thanks ... I appreciate it.

VZW's data plans are kinda steep too. I think Sprint has about the
cheapest data plans in the business.
