I'll make this simple. I've had the same phone for over 4 years now. I went
into a Sprint store and, after about an hour, picked out a nice A760. I was
lured by the $150 "instant discount". After starting the purchase process, I
was told the $150 would be sent as a rebate in 6-8 weeks. F that!
I'm sure you all knew that but I sure didn't.
Is there any way to get the discount applied immediately? I am willing to
purchase from any dealer or store, Internet or B&M.
I am willing to sign up for 2 years but want to retain my previous # of
course.
Thanks,
Scott

The $150 *instant* discount is definitely good on new activations. I added a
line to my Sprint account and ported my number over from Verizon and got it.
Whether it's good for phone upgrades on an existing line, I'm not sure. You may
want to clarify that. I'm not sure.

Well, different authorized retailers may have different deals on phones,
although this seems to be more true of other carriers than it is of Sprint.

I think it is an instant discount if you get it on their web site but not
100% sure.

Not that I'm aware of. You can check and see if any other sources, like Best
Buy, Radio Shack, have better pricing.

If you did decide to do the mail in rebate, you would be required to do a 2
year agreement in any event.

Sprint charges a lot of money for a new phone. I don't do 2 year contracts
so I am stuck. Hope you do better than I

All cellular customers, no matter who the provider is, are charged a lot of
money, if they don't want to extend their commitment.
I was going to recommend checking what's available on eBay, but if one does
that and find a phone they are interested in, they also need to get the ESN
on the phone, to make sure there are no encumbrances on it.

Re: Want a new phone
the mail in rebate aspect does suck, trust me I did it and regret it now
having to resign a 2 year contract, but then again I can always cancel, the
fee to cancel would be the same as what I pay every month for my cell plan.
I've also heard you can get the instant on the sprint site, but then you
have to have it shipped, ebay is probably the best. All rebates should be
immediate, afterall, sprint makes most of it's money on plans and
activations, not the phones.

Re: Want a new phone
No instant rebate unless I add a line.
I tried calling them & tried my best to get a break, but the salesman
wouldn't budge.
In these days of high competition & easy portability of phone #, I don't
understand why they don't try harder to keep me.
I have been with Sprint for way over 7 years w/2 lines on the account. It
would be in my best interest to switch now to another carrier. That way I
would get new phones. The question is who?
All it would take from Sprint would be a little "retention" courtesy thrown
my way & I would stay for many years to come. What's wrong with this
picture? This is the poorest area of customer service I have ever witnessed
in all my consumer years.

Re: Want a new phone
Sure you would get new phones, but you would not be with Sprint PCS
anymore. Bummer.

Scott, I tried to email you and it bounced. Which phone model are you
replacing? Email me..

Re: Want a new phone
I don't understand why you're so opposed to the $150 mail-in rebate.
If you time the billing cycle on your credit card just right, the rebate
will arrive about the same time the credit card payment is due.

I bet the problem has more to do with if the rebate comes, not when.
Personally, I would feel a lot more comfortable if the rebate was at
least approved, in writing, at the time of purchase. Mail-in rebates are
designed to have low returns (redemption companies brag about this).
OTOH, I don't mind Staples latest rebate technique: no paperwork needed
at all, as it's all done online. You can generally tell the rebate will
be OK since there is a unique number printed right on the receipt. You
input this number into the Web site and that's about it. I haven't had
it happen yet, but if for some reason that unique number doesn't work
properly with the Web site, I'll still have time to return the item
(without missing UPC codes, etc.). YMMV.

You call 6-8 weeks within a CC cycle?
My brother waited 9 weeks for his rebate. No thanks.
My issue is: if they can give a new subscriber an instant rebate why
not me?
Same transaction as I am signing a 2-yr & buying a phone.

Two things: 1. The $150 "instant" rebate is only for new activations
(adding an additional line to existing account or a brand new customer).
The online instant rebate also only applies to new activations..
Secondly, Sprint makes most of their money off Accessories....
Accessories are the number one thing they make money. Plans and
activations make less money than accessories..
Hope this info helps.
