Well, here it is, July 7th, where someone said SPCS was going to initiate
some changes to plans and to the rebate on phones. I didn't see any changes
to plans for my neck of the woods and SPCS is still offering F & C plans.
They did do some big changes on the rebate of phones though. Per this link -
http://www.sprintrebates.com/track/sprintpcs/index.jsp , and plugging in my
phone number and zip code, it appears that the 18 month time frame is no
longer. There are different levels offered, for different time periods of 1
year & 2 years of the phone in service, and in how long one wants to commit
to a new AA, either 1 or 2 years. I did not see anything mentioned about
"mail in" rebates on this particular link.

For yours truly, I received the following info.
    --------------------------------------------------
You may be eligible for your next discount on select new Sprint PCS Phones
when you meet the following criteria:
Have continuous service on the same phone for at least 12 consecutive
    months.
Must be on a $34.99 or higher monthly Sprint PCS Service Plan. ($34.99 is
base monthly plan price and does not include fees for add-on features or
services. Eligibility for Sprint PCS Add-A-Phone customers sharing plan
minutes is based on the primary account holder's monthly service plan).

Sign a new one- or two-year Sprint PCS Advantage Agreement® (depending on
    discount amount).
Sign up for Sprint PCS VisionSM if purchasing a Sprint PCS Vision-capable
    phone.

    the rebate.

NB. "Have continuous service on the same phone for at least 12 consecutive
    months"

They still don't *quite* get it (I object to "continuous service on the same
phone"), but at least it's 12 instead of 18. Definitely an improvement.

Hm. I bought the only NEW phone on my line on June 2, 2004, when I activated
the new line. The rebate site says I qualify for a $75 rebate on 7/1/2005
and a $150 rebate on 7/1/2006, so maybe you just need to not buy a
discounted phone for twelve months. (I activated a loaner from my
brother-in-law when my phone broke in December, and then activated a phone I
    bought off ebay.)

I've said all along that Sprint needs to reward customer loyalty the same
way some other carriers do, and this is a big step in that direction.

But my wife supposedly qualifies for a $150 discount on 2/1/2006. That's
wrong. She didn't activate her last phone on 2/1/2004, she activated it
several months before if I recall correctly... and she *hasn't* activated
any other phones on her line since then. I'll have to talk to her; maybe I'm
    remembering the wrong date.

where exactly do you see the benefit or how is sprint heading in a good
direction? With the old system I would have qualified this october, now it's
next april, screw job for me. They should have grandfathered in everyone
that is on a plan currently and enforce it for new customers.

Yeah, I got screwed on the $150 too. I still think it's a better deal in
general, and if I end up needing a new phone, I'll call CS and have them
adjust my account so I can qualify in January instead of July, like before.
    You should do that too.

    Capn,
Can you give me the number you have been calling to get this special
service? Since posting the message below I have talked to 2 more CS
Reps and 1 supervisor and they have all said the same thing "Too
bad!". Yet if I'm a new customer off the street the world is my
oyster! Do you know someone at Sprint that helps you out? With the new
plan today they do say that my wife is now eligible for $75...which
makes no sense since she added her new phone in September 2004!

This leads me to another question. Can I port my number from one
Sprint account to another? My current account is in my wife's name. If
I open a new account can I port our old numbers over and then cancel
    the wife's account?

    POSTED EARLIER:
    Welcome to Sprint PCS!
Had the same exact thing happen to us yesterday. We have had two lines
with Sprint for almost 5 years now. Contacted them because our two
year agreement expired last week. About 8 months ago the wife's phone
broke in two. Bought a replacement on ebay and called and activated.
Noticed that her phone now says 10 more months for rebate.
Told them that the plan rules says Purchasing and activating a new
phone AND receiving any other discount. We didn't receive any
discount! The guy says no go. Then he has the balls to say that he
noticed are contracts were up and would we like to renew since my
phone is eligible and that makes it a good deal! "It's just like
getting $75 off on each phone!" I just laughed and hung up.
    Who designed this business model?
Anyway, I guess its goodbye SprintPCS.

At that point, I'd call Retention, tell them that Customer Service is not
allowing you to take advantage of a promotion that would extend your
contract -- which is unbelievably stupid of them, when you think about it --
    and see what they say.

Technically, it's not porting if you're moving the number between two lines
handled by the same carrier. I don't know if you can transfer immediately
between lines; you may be able to. I've never tried it. If you cancel
outright, the system may have an automatic waiting period so that they don't
give someone a number recently used by someone else...

I'd be interested in the number as well, especially since october is a hell
of a lot closer then april.

Looks like the rebate eligibility dates are all screwed up!
Until recently, the rebate status site correctly had my eligibility date
as 3/1/2005 (the 18 month anniversary). Now it says, 9/1/2004 for a
$75 rebate, and 9/1/2005 for a $150 rebate. How can they retroactively
change the rules after one would already have qualified for the $150
    rebate under the old rules?

I guess I got screwed also. My 18 month was to be 11/05.

I believe in the fine print it says 'Sprint can do anything it wants to, but
    the customer cannot...'.

Here's the reply I received from Sprint:

    Dear John,

I understand your concern and would be glad to assist you.

Presently, we have a promotional offer known as New For You Handset
Upgrade Program. This promotion offers Mail-in Rebates upto $150.00 to
our existing customers who have 24 months old handset. Earlier,
eligibility criteria was 18 months old handset. I can certainly
understand that you are going to upgrade both the phones, however, it is
my sincere request to you to wait till September 2005, and enjoy the
    $150.00 rebate.

Please be assured that this policy has been changed for all our valued
customers. I hope you will certainly understand and extend your
    patience and cooperation.

I enjoyed serving you and look forward to working with you in future.
    Have a great day.
