I have quite successfully transferred, via USB/comm port 4 data cable
my BitPim phone book to my 2 day old Sanyo 4920.

However I have found that the calls coming in to me from people
already entered in my phone book (and show up correctly and dial out
correctly) in the Sanyo 4920 (after having used BitPim) do NOT
consistently show the name of the caller when the caller is calling me
and that caller is already in my phone book.

Obviously, this is quite undesirable and surprising. When a name is
entered MANUALLY, and not via the data cable transfer from BitPim, the
name will show up, as it had with the previous Sanyo 4700, when the
phone book entries were manually entered.

Is there some extra element that I have failed to do in BitPim ?

(For example, I have not done anything with that far left extra
    "confidence" column. )

And if BitPim simply will not perform this function with the
transferred phone book to a Sanyo 4920, does anyone know of a software
program which will have cable transferred phone book names show the
name of the caller when that caller is calling in to me ?

I do not mind paying for a program, if it will perform that function.
This recognizing the name of the incoming caller is a very high
    priority for me.
Does anyone, separately, know of a program which will permit the
recognition of the name of an in calling person who is in my phone
    book ?

    I do appreciate any help.

    JBJ

I've used FutureDial SnapSync to transfer my phonebook from my Samsung
3500 to A460 to A620 to A680. The "recognition of the name of an in
calling person who is in my phone book" works fine.

Enough people are using BitPim that I suspect it has a solution for
    this, too.

I discovered a way to use SnapSync to mess up the phonebook. Thru the
keypad, you cannot enter the same number into two different entries
(e.g. a husband and wife have their own entries for their work and
mobile numbers and you want to enter the same home number in both but
you can't). But thru SnapSync you can type the same number into two
entries and copy it to the handset. The Samsung phone (it was the A460)
subsequently freaked out or rebooted on each received call from any
number in the phonebook. I had to use the phone's security menu to
erase the entire phonebook (in one fell swoop) and start over.

    Frank,
I have this exact interest, dead on. Amazing that I also have a 4920
and have been bogged by the same thing as JBJ. Same thing.
Does anyone know of a resource that I don't for finding out if this is
specific to Sanyo phones but Samsung does not have this concern ?
I did actually just visit a Sprint Store and was told that with thier
own transfer he phone numbers utility, that not showing the incoming
caller name might not or will ot work.
I could not quite nail it down with the Sprint store guy before I had
    to leave the store.
If it is something that snapsync will do and bitpim will not, then I
will bite the bullet and buy snapsync.
I also look to responders re this point and bitpim - thanks from me to
    in advance
    Bob

Have you tried searching through or posing your question in BitPim's forum?
If not, I'd suggest you go there and try it.

Since I am in the same boat, if you will permit me to jump in here, at
    :
    http://www.bitpim.org/apidoc/private...ook-class.html

there is reference to the coding of the phone books with BitPIM. I
would not be surprised if it is simply an omission in the coding of t
he newest version of Bpm. As for using support and archives, I have
not found this easy to do and I have not seen a reference in such
    archives.
One wonders if other pgms will provide the capacity to see who is
calling in when they are in one's notebook.
