I have been sentenced to 6 months of work here in Los Angeles.
Sprint service was fine till a few weeks ago. Now I roam in places I
never have and service is way off
Has anyone else notice a decline in service??

Did you report the problem to Sprint? It is possible that there is a cell
    tower that is down.

    Re: Los Angeles service???

First, don't look at it as a sentence - think of it as a reprieve from
winter or tragedy, depending on where you're from.

Are you paying additional for roaming charges while well within city
limits or near LAX, etc.? Dispute them! Sprint has done some great
work filling in black holes, especially on Los Feliz Boulevard where
Dewey and Observatory cross. Hyperion Avenue and Griffith Park
Boulevard (Gelson's) is better as well. That is a particularly
difficult area to get signal to.

It may be, as subsequent poster has suggested, that a couple of towers
are having problems. If enough people ride them, they'll get fixed.
They need approximate locations, however. They do have GIS maps of the
US in India and the Phillipines with tower locations!

VZW seems to have the least holes in service throughout the five-county
area, but Sprint does pretty well. My VZW buddies on the East Coast
knock Sprint all the time for poor coverage, but VZW has all of those
legacy towers and Sprint had to build almost everything from scratch.

That being said, the moment I can get 6pm or 7pm night/weekend minutes
from VZW, I'll consider paying the early termination fee and move my
number there. Sprint is a little slow on the EV-DO side of things and
EV-DO and voice seem to be integrating better with the other company
    than with Sprint.

The company that I work for has personnel located in NYC. It seems that
Sprint and Verizon are the only serious providers in NYC that can be counted
on for business purposes. We have tried Cingular and they get a "D" in NYC.

Service just doesn't disappear unless there's some type of outage or
the system is temporarily down for maintenance. However Sprint's
network has been down intermittently the past 3 days. The rumor going
around is that the brush fires going on here in So. Cal caused damage
to a call switching facility. But this would not affect signal
strength or cause the phone to roam. Instead it would block calls from
being made by giving a fast busy signal. There was a 3 hour period
earlier today where I could barely get a call out. Hopefully it's
    fixed now.

Sprint just added new cell sites in San Fernando, Burbank, Panorama
City, West Covina, and Alhambra. In Orange County improvements have
been made in Fullerton and Anaheim. Other improvements in Claremont
    and Upland.

You will find 2 quite voluminous threads commenced by a Veronica
    starting on Sept 5th.
Those threads go a long way to complain about dropped/changed Sprint
PCS service through a major passage way in Los Angeles, namely the
Laurel Canyon pass between Hollywood and Studio City. This has been
going on for months, and others indicate that phone calls and reports
to Sprint have been made, but to no avail.

I feel likely more upset than Veronica. I travel this route twice a
day. The upper half of the hill, on both sides, formerly had clear,
certain PCS coverage. Now there is only sputtering PCS on the Studio
City side, and, on the Hollywood side, only roaming service,
presumably with Verizon, from what I read.

I can't tell you how frustrating (I believe some used similar wording,
but it is likewise applicable to/for me) it is to have a conversation,
which was started some time earlier, get messed up and to know that
any attempt to have such a conversation (continue uninterrupted) will
be met with gnashing of teeth, on my end. Over a road that for years
was perfect in holding the PCS signal.

    Bob,

Have you called in and filed a complaint about this yet? The more
    complaints they get the better.

Yes, I have. I only got talk about high usage times (which has not
proved accurate per my own testing on the road) and the Nextel users
"coming on-line". No certainties of technical points to hold on to.
The element that takes me "aback" here is that under this is the
presumed fact that Verizon is who is providing the digital roaming
that one can go to on the Hollywood side of the upper part of the
    Laurel Canyon pass hill.

We're talking right smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles.

Sort of sitting there is the unspoken apparency that Verison will
provide (non roaming) service and Sprint has to
hook up (and terminate existing one's call and start a new roaming
    call) to Verison.
I have an existing potential ten phone plan with Sprint. There would
be some sizble early termination fees to pay, but I can't have this
    non-service continue.
'Sorry, - some venting here - but it is frustrating/

A cell site must be down. Have you talked to Sprint "Technical Support" not
"Customer Service"? Did they send a technician to investigate the problem?

But they knew it was coming, so the influx Nextel users is absolutely no
excuse. Besides, Nextel doesn't even use the same technology as Sprint PCS,
so that claim is a bald-faced lie.

Steve is correct. It is nothing but a lie from a bunghole that does not know
what he is talking about. That is Sprint's problem in a nutshell. They lie
to get you off the phone because they are incompetent and do not know how to
respond. If you do not like the answer or feel that you have been
jerked-around, what can you do? Is there any way to elevate your problem to
Sprint Management's attention? How is this done?

    Re: Los Angeles service???

You have to ask for tech support (get out of the regular customer care)
and don't hang up until they have filed an actual trouble ticket and
given you a number to write down. Believe me they will look into the
problem but before they are allowed to the ticket has to be escalated 3
times. That means they will have to call you back two times and each
time you tell them the same thing. That the problem still exsists.
This doesn't mean they will have a fix for it but at least you want it
to land in the local RF dept level (Burbank or Irvine) where someone
can actually give you accurate info.
