    I want to upgrade my phone but am frustrated by all the huge discounts that
    they offer for new subscribers. Is there any way to get around the system
    and pay less money? There's that $20 discount for the two hot phones
    (a900/a920) that I'm considering... For example, can I cancel my phone and
    then switch the number as a new account? Or would I have to switch
    providers? Do I have to have it currently active to switch the numbers?

    Also, I don't want to pay the $18/$36 or whatever fees they charge. The
    operator said that the Sprint Store might be able to get around that. Any
    insight?

    No, don't cancel your service, unless you want to change carriers for a
    better deal & better coverage. SPCS will consider you still a customer, if
    you come back within a few months (and it may be up to six months).

    You may be able to get a discount on the phones, if your annual agreement
    has been completed, and agreeing to one or two years of service, depending
    on how much credit you want on that phone. As for the activation fee, those
    are only charged on new lines of service. If you are getting a replacement
    phone, there shouldn't be a new activation fee.

    If you are thinking about creating a new line of service or a new account,
    then activation fees are applicable for each new phone added to service.

    It's not just new phones. There are good frequent flier deals if you
    open an account with Sprint but not if you are a current subscriber.

    Depends on how long you have had your phone, every 12 months you can get
    $75 off a new phone or wait 24 months and get $150 off. Same deal they
    offer new customers 99% of the time. Realize that "promotional" deals
    are only to attract new customers and you are not able to get them, such
    as when you see a deal like $200 off a new phone, its the normal $150
    plus the promotional $50. Yes there is a $36 ESN swap fee that Sprint
    went back to charging this fall. They used to do it, then stopped and
    now they are back to doing it again.
