yes, but the caveats differ from phone to phone, whether you are trying to
    use EVDO or not, etc...

Does it work with the Sanyo MM-8300 ?

I used to have the MM-7400, it died so they upgraded me to the 8300. The
cable still works, but it won't dial out.

Nope. Won't work with that phone (8200, yes).

So is there anyway to get the MM-8300 to work as a modem?

I believe that only applies to phones whose feature-list includes "Phone
as Modem Capable" (I believe they are all EV-DO models--or most are).
Indeed such phones--Power Vision phones--all seem to include the
    connection cable in-the-box (e.g., MM-7500).

There weren't really all that many "transitional"
(pre-EV-DO-yet-tether-crippled) phones released by Sprint. These phones
were never advertised as being capable of tethering, so I don't see
Sprint going out of their way to support them for that purpose (e.g.,
selling the cables, etc.). But again, there weren't too many of these
types of phones released (e.g., the 8100 and 8200 are not crippled).

I seriously doubt that #777 will ever work with the 8300, barring some
sort of firmware hack/upgrade. If you go to sprint.com and try to order
an 8300 (and then choose a plan) you won't even get the option to add
the "Flexible Data Plan for Phone as Modem." Do the same thing with an
EV-DO phone and you will see that option available (you probably will
have to clear your "shopping cart" first, as the list of options to add
to your plan is based on the first phone you add to your order--gotta
    love Sprint's Web "masters").
