Need all the help anyone can give me. I want to use my Sprint PCS phone
(Sanyo SCP5300) as a phone modem with my lap top when we are traveling if
wireless is not available. Have no idea what is involved with this. I bought
a USB Data Cable that fits my phone but still don't know what to do or how I
would be charged on my Sprint bill for minutes used. Your help is most
appreciated.......traveling in a few days.
Thanks

As of 01/06, the latest Data offerings are:
Connection Card:
40MB - $39.99/mo.
Unlimited Data $79.99/mo. (Sprint is currently running a special: $59.99/mo.*)
Phone-As-Modem Data Pricing:
40MB - $39.99/mo.
Unlimited Data $49.99/mo. (Sprint is currently running a special: $39.99/mo.*)
* If combined with a Sprint PCS Plan and a 2-year subscriber agreement.
Unless Phone-As-Modem Data Pricing is selected, customers using a Sprint PCS
phone as a modem will be charged $0.02 per kilobyte for data usage.

Pete, you didn't mention whether you subscribe to Vision on your phone. If
you don't, then you will get hit for charges as Notan layed out. Most of us
who tether the phone to the laptop (and who subscribe to Vision), do not get
hit for any additional data charges, if we keep our usage to a short time.
In saying that, I haven't gone on line through my phone (Sanyo 5300) in some
time, and SPCS might have changed their billing software to recognize
tethered use and charge you additional data fees.
Now, for the instructions to set up tethering, go to this web site
http://www.futuredial.com/support/do...SB_Drivers.htm and download and
install the Sanyo driver.
Connect your phone to your laptop, which your laptop should recognize as new
hardware, and direct the new hardware installation to the Sanyo driver you
just installed.
Create a new DUN, leaving the user name & password fields empty, and
plugging in "#777" (without the quote marks) as the dial up number. You
should be good to go then.
