Hi everyone. I'm trying to decide between these two phones and I was
hoping anyone with experience with either or both of them could give me
their opinions.
I don't really need a ton of features. My biggest priorities are
reception and voice quality. I also want a phone with text capability,
which my current one doesn't.
The size of the samsung is a huge plus, but I wonder about some things,
such as whether the internal antennae is a bad thing. Also, the lack of
a separate speakerphone speaker is not good. Another thing I noticed
when using it was that when I was scrolling up and down through the
menu, it seemed to move rather slowly...anyone notice this?
As for the sanyo, I really like sanyo (have the 8100 right now) but it's
big compared to the samsung (although the samsung is rather tall when open).
Anyway, I'm sort of rambling now I guess, but I'd love to hear opinions
about these two, and especially any comparisons in terms of features and
quality.
Thanks.

I had both phones the reception on the Samsung was great plus the bluetooth
was good. the Sanyo is a fine phone but the Samsung was better sound wise
as well. I am back on the 8300 but not by choice. the Samsung by the way
does have a speaker.

Huh? "Not by choice?"

It has a speaker phone feature, but according to the Sprint guy I was
talking to (and I didn't see it either) there is no separate speaker for
it. The sound comes through the regular ear piece that you would use if
you were talking on the phone normally. I can't imagine that sounding
very good.

By the way, how about the volume on the phones? The phone I had a few
years ago (TP2200) had very low sound, making it impossible to hear
people when I was on the street. My 8100 can be very loud, as Sanyo is
known for, which is fine except that I usually have to adjust volume
often depending on who I'm talking to. Is the sound on the Samsung good?
Do you have to adjust it often? I would hope not, because the volume
button is not in a convenient spot on the phone.

How are up/down buttons, on the side of the phone, "not in a convenient spot?"

I find it awkward to reach up on the opposite side of the top of the
phone to push the buttons. Perhaps I can get used to it, but right now I
just have to use my thumb to reach my volume button.

Assuming you're right-handed, while holding the phone in a normal, talking position,
just reach around the back with your index finger.
No?

Well, I should use it more before really forming an opinion, but I have
fairly small hands and when I hold my phone, I hold my hand around the
bottom half, so reaching up to the volume button would involve moving my
hand so that my finger could reach the whole length of the button. But
again, maybe it's not as bad as I think. It's certainly not a reason
*not* to get that particular phone.

It *is* a bit of a stretch.
My wife kinda "inches" her fingers up the phone when she wants to change
the volume, then back down when she's done.
Practice! <g>

Interesting story, but not the answer to the question.
