I came across a web site that has a collection of technical articles
describing the CDMA transmission protocol. Anyone interested in
understanding the fundamental differences between CDMA and GSM ought to have
    a look.

I have no affiliation with these folks--just thought it was an informative
    web resource.

Interesting, well written stuff. But does not appear to have been updated since
    2000.

Back in the early days of this newsgroup (1997-2000) Steven Den Beste
was a handset engineer for Qualcomm and a frequent contributor.

Use groups.google.com's advanced search to search alt.cellular.sprintpcs
for his name in those years and you can enjoy more of his explanations
    about how CDMA works.

*That's* a name from the past... What ever happened to good old Steven?

He most likely moved on after Qualcomm sold off its handset division to
Kyocera, and became little more than a patent holding company who
happens to make chips on the side.
