Can one choose to use 1x RITT (I think that's it) instead of EVDO if their
phone is EVDO.
In other words, great phone, want simple internet via my laptop not
broadband speeds

Re: NON EVDO on An EVDO phone
Why, broadband is much faster? Why would you want to suffer with slow speed?

Re: NON EVDO on An EVDO phone
Why will you be paying 4x as much? I understand the Power Vision is only $15
per month. Where do you get the 4x?

Re: NON EVDO on An EVDO phone
Absolutely! What kind of phone do you have? EVDO on some phones can be
easily disabled. Go to Howardforums.com and search there.

Re: NON EVDO on An EVDO phone
EVDO use for PAM (Phone As Modem) requires a data plan. Your $15 Power
Vision does not allow PAM. But EVDO in some phones can be disabled!
Here is Sprint's announcement early this year:
Beginning February 1, 2006, phone as modem service will be blocked for
customers with EVDO phones unless a phone as modem plan has been purchased.
Customers currently using their EVDO phone to connect a computer to the
internet without a phone as modem service plan will receive the following
SMS text message on January 26, 2006:
A Phone-As-Modem data plan is required to connect your phone to a PC for
Internet connectivity. Please contact Sprint Customer Care via *2 to learn
more.
Customers will not be charged for the SMS text message.

Re: NON EVDO on An EVDO phone
Truth is that PDA Net gets around this quite easily. No guarantees that
Sprint cannot figure out you're using it, however.
