Re: Which Sprint PDA phone is the best????

What do you mean? Which button is on the left hand side? I realized after the fact that I kept typing PDA instead of PDA phone. My PPC6700 is a Pocket PC phone. It's got 416 MHZ processor, I believe something close to 49 or 50 MB of storage in the device itself, plus there's also the expansion slot for a storage card. I currently have two cards, a one gygabite and a two gygabite card. What I've done is put my music on the smaller of the two cards and my audible air and audio books on the larger one. The bluetooth functionality is works well, and I've been happy with the battery life thus far. It's not a major concern of mine now, but I *MIGHT* consider getting an extended battery for this phone at some point... Maybe. One other thing I also love is the ability to charge this device from a computer by way of the USB cable. Gee, guess I don't need to look for extra outlets whenever I travel for business or personal trips.
Through Sprint.com's digital lounge I found links to 3rd party applications that you can purchase. I found one application I really like. It enables me to create ringtones from mp3, wave sound, windows media audio, or middy files. If I wanted to use a certain part of a music clip I take the file and edit it on my laptop, sync it to my device with Active sync, and select it as a ringtone for whoever or whatever. So far I've been extreemly happy with this device. I especially love the fact that if I'm away from my laptop for whatever reason I'm able to still get to my emails, browse the net, edit documents in Microsoft Word, Excell, or Power Point, and use Pocket MSN. I did have to pay for specialized speech output software which enables me to do everything since I have no vision whatsoever. That's where I ended up paying my money. The software costs as much as the phone, so even though I didn't pay for the phone itself, I did pay for something. Time to work so I can finish paying off that credit card bill. LOL! Please feel free to email me on here or offlist if you have any specific questions about the PPC6700.

You can find out more about the Slingbox at:

    http://us.slingmedia.com

With the right equipment at home, it basically lets you watch TV on your
Pocket PC Phone or what you call a PDA.

I saw that post and that was why I posted:
"I want to hear more about your 6700. "

Ok, since you are new to this, I'll let you in on something I found:
"How to Tell If Your Device is a Smartphone or Pocket PC Phone"
    at:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...Sversions.mspx

"I've been very happy with this device, but I don't know too many
differences between the Trio and the other PDAs that are out there. I've
heard that processor speed on several other pda models out there is half the
speed of mine, and I'm currently running 416 MHZ processor with Windows
Mobil 5.0. I may upgrade in a year or so to the PC6800 which has Windows
Mobile 6.0 on it, but this of course is dependent on funds. I'd have gone
with the 6800 now, but I got the 6700 for free and simply switched my
    service over to it."

Sounds like you did OK for the price. I'd wait. Who knows, maybe in 6
months they will have an even neater phone than the Mogul. Besides, the
Mogul is really for left handers because when the keyboard slides out, you
have the button on your left hand.

On the following site, if you look at the right hand side of the screen at the Mogul (6800), you see where the navigation button ends up when you open the keyboard. It ends up on the left side of the screen instead of on the right side of the screen like it does on a 6700.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile

If you have the 6800/Mogul and go to Settings->System->Screen you will find out that if you set it up for "Landscape (left-handed)" it has the navigation button on the left side of the screen.

I consider it a "Left Handed Phone" and try my best to use the onscreen keyboard when possible.

I don't know if they tell you in the book for the 6700, but I've seen mention somewhere with one of those Pocket PC Phones. They say it gets a better charge if you use the wall charger that came with it. But sometimes, you don't want a better charge, just a charge.

As for the ringtones. You can already use MP3s, Waves and the other files you list without any editing at all.

Oh, yeah, "credit card bill." I don't do auto-payments on that anymore so I have to do it by hand. Thanks for reminding me.

I don't know if you know, but you can even reach this newsgroup with your 6700 with the following link:

Thank you for the info in this post, and no I had no idea I could reach this news group through my phone. Saves me from having to log into outlook express solely for the purpose of using newsgroups like this. Since this is the main one I check most often save for one other one I use once in a blue moon for references and insight into the profession of medical/legal transcription. I'll bookmark the link you provided and check it out on my phone. I don't mind using the wall charger, it's just easier when I'm at my desk or at my laptop wherever that might be sometimes to use the USB cable instead of hunting for an extra electrical outlet. I use the wall charger when the phone is not in use at all primarily at night when I'm home or attempting to sleep. LOL!

I've noticed differences in the way my emails on my laptop read and show up for me as opposed to those I send from my phone. Too bad this device can't be upgraded to WM6.0. But even if it could I don't have the green to cover that right now. LOL! Thanks again for the information.

They call it "Sign in" and all it takes is a valid e-mail address.

You can experiment with how to view the page. You might want to view the
page as a "Desktop" since I think that works best for me.

One more thing. If you post with Google groups you will be posting in
"Plain Text" so nobody can ***** about your HTML.

Oh, yeah, talking about HTML. Windows Mobile 6 handles HTML e-mail better
    than Windows Mobile 5.

Re: Which Sprint PDA phone is the best????

I guess that would ultimately depend on what the user is doing with the pda phone. Mine doesn't run slow at all. I'm not saying others haven't had less than favorable experiences with this phone. I don't know what you yourself have personally used in the past or now currently. I just know that this device works for me. And given my positive experiences with it thus far I don't see why I shouldn't pass along some positive feedback about this device to others who have specifically asked me for more information on this particular PDA phone. I don't know about you but I certainly have had no problems with my phone "corrupting itself" and most certainly no trojens making any international calls. I read through my bill very thoroughly every month. Since I use this as a business as well as personal phone I need to know what calls I've made over the previous billing cycle.

First, if you have any info about a virus infecting a Pocket PC I would like
see the link to it myself. I'm sure it could happen if someone is not
careful but I'd still like to see more about it.

You could have just stated: To change the setting used to post in OE start
with the "Outlook Express" Window then go Tools->Options->Send->New Sending
Format and then use the button that says "Plain Text." That is the way it
    is set on mine.

Depends on what you want to do with the phone. Mogul, Q and Treo come with
windows. Blackberry doesn't but is safer from viruses, etc. Tell us what
you want to do and we can answer your question better.

    "Safer from viruses?"

How many viruses have attacked Windows Mobile PDAs and phones to date?

Other than nebulous references to "the growing threat" (from sites
selling WinMo A/V software!) I've only found references to ONE virus that
can infect Windows Mobile devices; a "proof-of-concept" virus
commissioned by an A/V software company! (And therefore never "released
    into the wild," obviously.)

I'm not saying one should never choose a Blackberry over a WM device, but
it being "safer from virues" isn't a reason to choose one! (A proof-of-
concept Trojan that used Blackberries to attack corporate networks was
    developed in 2006, BTW!)

From www.virusbtn.com ("Virus Bulletin," a computing security website):
"The vast majority of currently existing malware for mobile devices
(PDAs, smart phones, etc.) is for mobile phones running the Symbian S60
R2 operating system - with just some proof-of-concept malicious programs
existing for the J2ME, PalmOS and Windows Mobile 2003 environments. The
paper examines the security features introduced in the newer versions of
the mobile operating systems - Symbian R3, Windows Mobile 6.0, J2ME - and
explains why they are much less vulnerable to self-propagating code.
While we stop short of claiming that these environments are virus-proof,
we maintain that viruses are unlikely to become a huge problem for them."

    > Tell us what

That is excellent advice! The OP's original question was akin to asking
which vehicle is "best"- motorcycle, mini-van or criuse ship... ;-)

My 200MHz T-Mo MDA can certainly get bogged down if I run too many
programs simultaneously and run out of memory, but I'd hardly call it
    "dog slow."

Find ONE reference to such a trojan and come back. We won't be seeing
    you anytime soon.

As I just posted in this thread, there's ONE proof-of-concept virus that
runs on WinMo, dating back to 2004.

FYI before you jump to conclusions I don't check my newsgroups through my phone. You ought to think prior to making assumptions. I think we all know what happens when someone assumes something. Next time try being a little more respectful in your content delivery and perhaps I might consider being just as respectful back to you instead of telling you precisely what I think. Respect is like a knife, it cuts both ways. You want it, you have to give it.
