With my Sprint, it roamed extensively and often would not work at all.

Verizon is much better than either T-Mobile or Sprint.

As I'd said, I thought Sprint got rid of that long ago. It's a
    powerful feature.

Actually it's a standard GSM feature. The caviat, of course, is that
you can only roam on carriers you're allowed to roam on. But I can
force a manual selection if an allowed carrier is available. I
sometimes force a selection if the phone selects a roaming carrier
that doesn't offer data so I can get e-mail.

To prevent this, GSM carriers sometime remove the manual carrier
selection menu from thir branded phones. I have a few unlocked
Cingular Nokias that are "missing" that particular menu.

Verizon sent a a technicial to evaluate the signal quality in my
neighborhood. They contacted me and told me that they could not provide
reliable service in my neighborhood because the signal was too low. They
also terminated me as a customer and waived the ETF because they couldn't
provide reliable service. That is when I switched to Sprint.

BTW: I don't understand how you can say that Verizon is better than Sprint.
I can go into the Roaming Menu on my Sprint Phone and set the phone to
"Roaming Mode". It will roam on Verizon reglardless of whether I have a
Sprint signal. Therefore, I have the best of both worlds. Verizon phones
cannot roam on Sprint and cannot be forced into roaming mode at all. They
will appempt to hold-on to a Verizon signal even if that signal is unusable.
    Does that make sense?

HOw long ago have you used Sprint? The folks in the company that I work for
have many Sprint phones and have never been in a situation where Verizon
worked and Sprint didn't work. Remember the Sprint phone can be placed into
roaming mode and will roam on Verizon if I want it to.

Think about that for a while before hitting "reply".

I will admit Sprint CS is bad beyond belief. In fact, they are beyond
worst!! On the other hand, you never have to call CS because the Sprint
network is so good that it just works. I can also force roaming mode anytime
that I like. Therefore with the ability to force roaming mode, I have more
options available to me than a Verizon user. Take note Verizon users: "I can
force my phone to roam on Verizon if I want to". This is a very powerful
    feature.

Believe me I was a Verizon user for 10 years before being forced to switch
to Sprint because Verizon could not provide signal to my home in Orange
County California or to my office in Carlsbad California, Sprint has full
signal strength in both areas! "Can you hear me now?" It definitely is "the
    network".

I'm sure it's possible that there is someplace where Sprint works that
Verizon doesn't, but it's very very rare. Look at the results for all
the independent surveys on coverage and quality, and Verizon is almost
    always the top network.

In the San Francisco Bay Area and in Southern California, Sprint is a
joke, with large coverage gaps even in urban and suburban areas. Part of
the problem is that Sprint's cells are at 1900 MHz which results in much
    poorer indoor coverage.

One advantage of Sprint is that they often allow roaming onto Verizon
even in areas where Sprint has a network, though not always. The reverse
is usually not true, Verizon won't allow roaming onto Sprint if Verizon
has a network in that area.

In the western region anyway, Verizon has better coverage than Sprint
(and T-Mobile and AT&T) by a huge margin. Back east Sprint is pretty
good except in a few places like the Washington DC Metro where Verizon
is the only carrier to pay to install coverage in the underground portion.

Your response is not correct. Sprint coverage in Southern California
LA/Orange/Riverside counties is as good as or better than Verizon. Sprint
allows users to force roaming when ever they desire to do so. Even if there
is a Sprint signal, you can force your phone to roam on another carrier.
That is a very good option! Verizon will not roam even if there is a low
Verizon signal that cuases you to drop calls. At least with Sprint, I can
    choose.

The purpose of my posts is to hopefully get folks off their high-horse
regarding Verizon. It is all marketing and Verizon has done a great job and
I congratulate them. In many areas, Sprint is better, Cingular is better, or
    T-Mobile is better.

The only cell phone service that is "the best" is the one that works the
best where you live, travel, work and play. That will not always be Verizon.
In my case, I was a Verizon customer for 10 years and Verizon does not work
in my area of Orange County California or at myt office in Carlsbad
California. Sprint provides full signal in those locations and Congular is
also pretty good. It is interesting that Verizon is so weak in this
technology park in Carlsbad California. Also, please don't try to tell me
that 1900 Mhz can't compete. 1900 Mhz is just as good as 800 MHz if it is
deployed properly. A prime example of this in the GSM 1800 MHz network in
England. It is deployed properly and is as good or better than Verizon's USA
    CDMA network.

I rest my case and will have another glass of Sprint pre-sweetened Kool-aid.
    :-)

That was my experience. It sucked ass. Best phones, best data plans,
best network where they have coverage (and they've done a lot of improvement
in that area over the years), coupled with a bunch of asshole third-world
flunkie idiots that don't care about accurate answers or decent customer
    service.

CS is the only thing I couldn't stand about Sprint when I left them in '05.

I think the funniest was I used to work for sprint (in overland park KS),
and even though we had free sprint phones, myself and my coworkers also
carried verizon ones cuz they worked better!

Why don't you just set the roaming indicator on your newsreader to
another group. You are just so wonderful that you can set the roaming
indicator on your Sprint phone to roam. You've said it over and over

Might be two different people. Mij lives in Laguna Niguel, I think, Jim

Simple; I *NEVER* have to roam with my Verizon phone. I had to frequently
roam when I was with Sprint.
You make a big deal about roaming, which indicates that coverage from Sprint
sucks where you are (as it does in mist places).
So you admit that you are using other carrier's signals and seem to think
that it makes your phone better because you have to
    roam.

For your information, Verizon phones roam just fine. Like your phone, you
have to set them to do so. You continue to falsely claim
that Verizon phones will not roam, which is completely false.
