This company calls repeatedly, almost daily, from a variety of phone
numbers, some blocked, some visible. When you ask for their address or
to be taken off the list, they hang up on you.

I've filed a complaint with the do not call registry, as apparently many
others, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

I was getting those calls maybe a month ago. Probably they are working
their way through your exchange area now. The first time it looked like
a familiar number on the CID so I answered it and a recording informed
me that my auto warranty was about to expire and to press one number to
get further information so I did to get their company information to
file a do not call complaint. I was immediately connected to someone and
they asked what kind of cars I had. I asked that since they called me to
tell my my warranty was about to expire they already knew that. I then
asked what their company name was and they told me warranty service
center, I asked where they were calling from and they told me "the
corporate office". I asked where it was located and they said they
didn't know. I asked how did they get there each day if they didn't know
where the "corporate office" was located and they hung up. I got at
least 10 more calls but never answered but each time the end of their
message was in the voice mail it left.

The do not call thing is bogus. SBC Told me there is nothing _Anyone_ can do
    other then change your number.

according to their local BBB there are over 500 unresolved complaints.
the government is also suing trying to stop them.

to me they are just a MAJOR SCAM company.

Yeah, I pretended I was interested and when I pressed them for their
company name (so I could file a complaint later) or even what insurance
company underwrote the policy they ewere selling they'd hang up! It's
bviously fraudulent. Perhaps if you agree to buy, they'll only accept
Western Union payment to their corporate headquarters in Lagos,
    Nigeria... ;-)

I was getting these on my cellphone, but I eventually discovered they were
actually calling my Voicestick VoIP line which was forwarded to my cell. I
added the VoIP line to the DNC registry and they stopped eventually.

Maybe we should write or call our "congress-critters" and demand a "Do
    Not Call" law with TEETH!

One useful tactic is to quietly put the phone down somewhere and let
them make their pitch to thin air!

Actually it has worked pretty well. All of our numbers are on the DNC
list. Before the DNC legislation we were constantly hammered with calls
and when it went into effect they quickly dropped to almost nothing.
Then the only calls were from companies we had a business relationship
with but the DNC act requires they must comply to make only
non-marketing calls if you ask them. After that calls went to nill. It
was only last month when we got a string of calls about auto warranties
from some pirate in Illinois (one of the beehives of crooked arrogant
people) who decided he was going to make a fast buck and the law didn't
    apply to him.

It works well until you have the outlaw companies. Then it takes
enforcement. If the FCC gets enough complaints about a specific company
then it will refer the matter to law enforcement. What SBC told Kevin
was a half-truth. There's nothing you or I can do, unless we have the
businesses details and want to sue them, but there is something that is
    done if enough people complain.

It works only if they (The caller) abides by the law. If they still call and
your number is on the list your going to have to report it. In my case (SBC)
Can't do anything about it other then change the number.

You don't report it to SBC, you report it to the Federal Government.

DNC has worked very well for me. I still get calls from people making
surveys but I think that even the survey people are getting the idea
that my number is not survey friendly! I get very few calls on my
listed number and none on my unlisted number!

But SBC has nothing to do with it. The DNC has a database that gets
populated when people file complaints. When some POS decides laws are
for someone else the complaints will trigger an investigation.

Fortunately I'm yet to receive calls from that party. However, on my
mobile I do receive calls about twice a week from a spam outfit in
Canada and they simply won't go away. Their calls usually necessitate
my running to the other room to pick up the phone, and by then it's
turned into a missed call. Should I break my neck running, who do I sue?
