:True enough. However, if I remember correctly (IIRC), the poster for whom I

Yep, and the Kyocera 6035 managed t9 style input via the keyboard quite
nicely. It would seem the programmers at Samsung need to get a clue.

OK, I finally got myself back into work, and took a good look at the I500
and its phonebook. I think I need to explain.

When *I* think of "T9", I think of the proprietary word-prediction
technology in our "pure" phones that is supposed to let you use the keypad
at a fast rate. If that's the T9 that was meant in the inquiry, then I
could not get that to happen. Now, since the original user was, IIRC,
trying to determine the ability to use the device one-handed, I think that
    answers the question.

What I *did* get to happen was that I could Grafitti the characters into the
"Find" blank, and the phonebook immediately jumped to the first match. More
characters, better match, the selection imediately moved. So the "T9"-type
finding is there, from what I can tell. I just couldn't seem to get the
phonebook to accept keypad input. I'll take a look a bit further later. I
only had about 10 minutes to "play" with it before another tech needed it
    for another call.

I always found it far easier to input data on my PC/Mac 's keyboard, and
    then synch for Palm devices.
