So you are saying that you aren't having any problems, and it's all
working, but you wonder if your doing something wrong?

Sounds like it's working perfectly to me...

When I setup my Sanyo 4900 months ago this group kindly informed me I didn't
need the connection software - just to use #777 - worked like a charm.
Apparently some people/phones were having problems with the software - but
if it works for you that is great! Do you have to run a ping in the
background to stay connected? I do. DonnaB

I had been living on my boat and using pcs vision and my laptop/Sanyo
4900 to surf the internet. I stopped 4 months ago, but yesterday I
got a call from CSR that said in the May to June billing period I
uploaded/downlosded 2000 MB of data. Not true, unless that is the
total since I bought the phone and started Sprint service. They were
not going to charge me but unless I accepted a Data contract they
would cancel PCS Vision. I just checked my plan and they canceled. I
guess I will go back to Verizon and pay the $79/mo for unlimited data.

I guess so. You, and two posts on 3GUpload, and probably a host of other
forums will show up in the next few days. It looks like we're going into
this full bore now, folks. We watched as one guy with over 27GB spread over
4 months tried again and again tonight to have someone credit him back the
data usage he'd incurred as a result of the cancellation. No go. Internal
network analysis folks are watching this, and so are our managers. Once you
get that call, you either take the contract, or you pay per KB.

And there's nothing I can do about this. If I try to override it, you still
get charged, and I get fired.

    We're *that* serious about this.

I have not started using my phone as a modem yet, but I was planning to
for *occasional* use. I have a wifi network, it would only be for the
occasional travel. Is Sprint only taking issue with people 'abusing'
the system such as multi-gig a month, or anyone that even connects? I
would probably just be checking email, checking websites, a little AIM

Sporadic use? Based upon what I'm seeing, and this is only speculation, I
    think you'll be OK.

I can't stress this enough, though. I'm SPECULATING. By the book, playing
strictly by the links I've already provided, any use like this is considered
    abuse by our system.

Based upon what you say, and upon what I've seen so far, I think you'll be
OK. But, as I told Phil, I'm SPECULATING. The regulations they're using
here define ANY such use as a violation for which we can terminate without
    notice.

    O/Siris:

I have about 7100 Kb's of data usage on my phone since I got it in
December, most of which were used from connecting to my laptop. I'll
probably be putting another 7 to 10,000 KB's on it in the next week,
also by connecting to my laptop. Would this type of usage raise a red
flag, in your best guess opinion?

Where are you getting your k/b figures--what type of handset do you use?
Some of them have a register to indicate exact usage.?

I have a Sanyo 4900. To check for lifetime data usage I hit ##786,
press "ok", "save phone number" and then a menu comes up to check for
lifetime voice usage, data usage, number of phone calls made, current
    version of software, etc.

I believe this number works for all Sanyo phones. I'm not sure about
    other phones.

Best guess? Yes. However, also my best guess, I don't think they'll cancel
Vision out from under you for that. Most likely, they'll put you on some
    kind of watch list.

10MB in a week? I'm fairly sure that'll get noticed. I'm less sure that
it'll prompt any action. Unless it becomes regular.

The only people who have been "busted" for doing this that I am aware
of downloaded on average a gigabyte a month.

10 MB will not set off any alarms. Way too many people have PDA's for
Sprint to care about that amount.

10MB in a month? Nope. 10MB in a week? It'll draw attention. From what
    I'm being told.
