I called *2 today and said "Cancel service" at the prompt; it took
about 30 seconds to get another voice on the line. I told him the
truth, that I'm basically happy with my plan now, might be interested in
a few more minutes per month, and I'd be interested in F&CA rather than
    my current 300/unlimited (9 PM) F&C for $30. I was offered
    350/unlimited (8 PM) for $35 and 400/unlimited (8 PM) for $40. I guess
these qualify as "rentention deals" as they are not on the website and
the 8 PM n/w, but they don't give me any better "deal" (i.e. still 10
cents a minute for a/t minutes) on the minutes and thus I said I might
call back; Do you think its a good deal?
Also, I've been noticing Cingular's nationwide GSM plans (and their
cheap really nice phones). Somebody talk me out of signing up with
them! I live in Madison, WI.

I guarantee you that Cingular's "nationwide" GSM plans are nowhere near what
you are looking for if you were asking for the free roaming plans with
Sprint. It will be eventually, but I don't think it is yet. In Austin they
aren't even selling GSM phones yet last I checked.

Call Sprint back again, do the same process for getting the right people,
and tell them their first offer was good but not as good as you are looking
    for.

I think that the offers offered to existing customers might partially
depend on length you've been a customer and your plan dollar amount.

Still, for $30 [no change in your current bill] , you probably should
be able to get at least 350 AT and unlimited NW 8pm. If you are
willing to sign a (dis)Advantage agreement, you might even get more
    including phone credit.

Well, it is a better deal in that those 50 extra minutes are only
$5 instead of the $20 they would be on your current overage rate, or the
100 extra minutes are only $10 instead of $40.

Oh, that's easy. First off, there have been reports (I don't know this
first hand but have been told) that Cingular will charge for unanswered
incoming calls as airtime. Someone calls you and you don't answer? At
least one minute gets knocked off your airtime bucket.

Second, Cingular still hasn't completed GSM rollout. They are also
hurtin' bad when it comes to available spectrum, so much so that quite a
few markets (including the largest one: NYC) actually aren't running on
Cingular's network: they've been borrowing spectrum and network capacity
from T-Mobile to be able to claim coverage in such areas. And even with
this, coverage still isn't up to snuff, especially if you were
interested in Free & Clear America. You won't even come close to that
kind fo coverage for quite a while yet on Cingular.

Third, Cingular WILL have to overhaul its network again if it even
remotely plans on keeping up with data services. If you were on a CDMA
network like Sprint or verizon, this won't mean much to you if you have
no interest in data. But if Cingular ultimately switches to WCDMA from
the current generation of GSM, you'll eventually have to upgrade your
phone whether you want to or not.

If you plan on leaving Sprint, I would *seriously* avoid Cingular.

    I am getting 750 min/mo w/ 8p N/W $40. But I have been a SPCS customer
    for 5.5 years.

Leave Sprint and their horrendous service behind
