I currently have Sprint PCS and the contract ran out back in December. I
was looking around at the deals offered by the other carriers and was
considering T-Mobile. Anywhere in the NoVA, MD, DC would be my main
calling area, but I live in Front Royal, VA (Zip: 22630). I also travel
occasionally to Bad Axe, MI (which is analog roam for Sprint and I
believe is not on T-Mobile's network).

The primary use of my phone is to keep in touch, I do not use many
minutes and currently have a $29.99 plan through Sprint. But the T-Zones
    looks pretty nice

Amazon has some pretty good deals on T-Mobile phones, up to $300 in
rebates. Of course I would have to shell out $300 and then wait for my
    rebate.

I am open to opinions, comments, etc... should I stay w/Sprint or switch
    to T-Mobile?

    Thank you

Possible an even better choice is Verizon. I was with Sprint till 2.5
years ago. Verizon's a little higher, but gosh, the coverage is
infinitely better. Dropped calls--nill. Service--vastly superior.
Phones--not as good a selection as Sprint.

I switched from Sprint to T-Mobile after Sprint was off the air for 4 days
here in Houston during a bad flood.

I'm glad I did. I was one of Sprint's first customers in Austin, and
watched their customer service go from tolerable to terrible over the
years, culminating in their charging me extra to actually talk to a
    representative.

With T-Mobile, we're back to tolerable customer service, a better selection
of phones (GSM rocks) and much more attractive rate plans.

That's a possibility. Verizon has just recently come to my area. To give
you a point of reference, I am about an hour's drive west of the Washington
    Beltway (I-495/I-66).

Yeah, that's what I was looking at too, but of course I would have to pay
the $300 out of pocket and then wait for the $300 rebate in the mail. I
probably can get the activation fee waved, I already called the local T-
Mobile store and the guy said that he can get it credited to my bill.

I switched to T-Mobile and never been happier. I've got signal again on
my own home and in buildings I've never got when I was with Sprint. I
live in the MD area and been very very satisfied. The MMS and SMS is
one of the thing I thought I wouldn't like until I finally got it.
Talk about night/day service. No more logging into the phone's internet
to send/receive AIM messages on the go or to send quick text note when
you can't talk on your cell.

Ah, you must be in the old Shentel Cellular area that Verizon purchased!

I wonder if I can "Test Drive" T-Mobile and borrow a handset for about
48hrs, actually this weekend would be the perfect test because I am
driving from VA to IN (south of Indy).

Yeah, that is such a pain and that is why I do not use the Internet part
of the service. I have not tried Vision because I do not have a Vision
enabled phone, so I can not compare, but of course Vision plans start at
    $49.99 and T-Mobile is $10 cheaper.

They sure did. You'd have to ask over on alt.cellular.verizon how the
cutover is proceeding - Shentel was analog-only, and Verizon is doing a
digital build-out in the former Shentel areas.

If you're driving through WV, kiss T-mobile service goodbye. You will
have no signal until you get to Columbus.

I would be hesitant to go with a company that did not have some form of
AMPS or TDMA "backup" as current GSM coverage is limited in the US.
This will change, but it's not there yet.

Well, it seems pretty simple to me.

NO Coverage AT ALL in one of the places that I go with T-Mobile, Coverage with
    Sprint = Sprint wins.

Heh heh. If you're driving through much of WV, including along
interstate, you can kiss everything except analog goodbye.

I would stick with CDMA, so that's either Sprint or Verizon. Why don't
you check out Verizon. I'm on the America's Choice and travel all the
time, and don't have any problems, while my T-Mobile phone(and Sprint)
won't have any signal, or just roaming on Sprint. I know, Verizon is
more expensive, and their phones are not as good as T-Mobile's but
    still, check them out!
