I am in the youngstown area, noticed that SID 00126 (Alltel) seems to
have priority over SID 00089 (Cell One).

Any other observations from NE Ohio?

Anyone ever roam on cingular, verizon, or other carriers?

Early on I was advised, and followed up, always setting my phones'
    ROAMing settings to SPRINTPCS only.

Sure does. Alltel is CDMA. You can't roam digital on Dobson CellularONE,
which is TDMA. Since Verizon doesn't have coverage in Youngstown, you
WILL be on Alltel if you use a Verizon phone there. It's part of National
Single-Rate and AC, and is also usable on Local DigitalChoice and you don't
    have to pay for roaming.

If your billing address is in Austintown, I don't know whether you can
get service from Verizon, however, since they don't actually own towers
    in Mahoning County.

And as I've mentioned, that's not a good idea, and is absolutely not
necessary in Youngstown as you can use Alltel's network without paying
roaming charges even if you're only on a NE Ohio local plan.

Do whatever you want. But in Youngstown, VZW customers should always
    use Alltel.

Steven ... this was a Sprint PCS roaming question, not a Verizon one. It is
irrelavent to PRL10019 whether a Verizon phone will be roaming or not and
    under what plan.

    *groan*

There was a big thread over in the VZW
newsgroup about Youngstown this past week... I got the threads mixed up.

Not that that's an excuse. I know damned well that a PRL starting with a 1
is a Sprint PRL. Verizon PRLs typically are 2xxxx or 5xxxx depending on
whether you have a local or national plan.

    Sorry, Phillipe.

I was responding to what I thought was the Youngstown convo from over
in the Verizon newsgroup. See my apology to Phillipe for further information.

Sorry I wasn't very clear, I am a sprint PCS customer. Normally I too
keep my phone on Sprint PCS only. However, I signed up for the F & C
America plan...I will see if I ever get any CDMA roaming on those rare
occasions when I might roam. I just noticed that Alltel (which is 800
CDMA/AMPS) seems to have priority over CellOne (TDMA/AMPS) in our
area. Which I hope is good news.

I will see what happens when I get my tri-mode phone soon.

If for some reason you need to go over to another carrier in Y-town,
I do believe Alltel is the only other CDMA provider there. I don't know
what kind of roaming agreement Alltel has with Sprint in that area; perhaps
none, since they both have native coverage there.

    > I will see what happens when I get my tri-mode phone soon.

Yeah, let us know. I am particularly curious, having just moved from NE Ohio.

Oh I do roam on Alltel now if I let it, and it appears to have priority as
of the latest PRL over Cell One.
I am just waiting for an a460 to come in that I orderd...I have an N200 now.
