I have 4900 w/vision service--tried the on live esn change for current
customers just wanting an esn change--continue to get message, cant do
it contact *2 etc (tried over the last 2-3 weeks, after seeing postings,
about problems with this web page service. (Use to use this prior to
vision service and hadn't tried it in months, only had one vision phone)

Then in the middle of this week, left my primary hand set in car at
airport, had old n200 samsung activated on my acct for a couple of days
(by the way called *2 on this old handset, after 5 minute wait to get a
human (5pm bad time to call) very courteous c/s rep did over the air
program in about 60 secs--had a working phone) ----then checked the
pcs page to see if I could change back to the old handset-was going to
try the new 6400 I had bought during sale, for some reason --looked like
it was going to work -=didn't follow thrum--anyway for some reason-I
decided not to activate the 6400--and later called *2 on the old
4900--over the air came back on--all oka with the 4900

Finally the question--now when I go back to pcs page, get the same
message that must call *2 etc for esn change==my girl fiiend has 4700
(obviously no vision) the pcs page appears to permit esn
change---what's the deal here -does vision knock out the esn change
service or what--and by the way does sprint object to numeous esn
changes, say a couple a times month ==if the web page thing works??

I think you would have had a lot fewer problems if you had gone from the
4900 to the 6400, or from the N200 to the 4700.

You were bouncing from Vision to 2G and back, which does cause issues
over the system (I only know this from experinece). Doing that also
forces you to change your plan, since you can't get vision on a 2G
phone, and the system will be messed up if you have a vision plan on a
    2G phone.

I did a poor job of asking the question--

I cannot use the system (at all) now that the 4900 is back, or when the
4900 was on prior to temp change to the old phone (while on the old
phone appeared that it would work) after I make the last click to just
change an esn, I get this message:

We are unable to activate your Sprint PCS Phone online at this time.
Other ways to activate your phone include:

If you are in one of our Sprint PCS retail stores, use the nearest
    Customer Solutions phone.
Activate by dialing *2 Talk on your new Sprint PCS phone.
Activate by calling 1-888-715-4588 from your home or office phone.

While the old phone was on line it went beyond this step, asking for new
esn etc. As I mentioned, my girl friend has a non vision plan and
phone, and will proceed to the esn page

Do you think c/s could fix this "glitch" or is it a lockout??

My understanding is that Vision phones can not utilize the online ESN
swaps. I'm not sure why as I do not work for Sprint so hopefully, one
of the Sprint techs can hop on here and verify what I've heard.

I have a suspicion of that, also. I'll do some digging around next time
I am back in the store to see if I can get an answer.

Likely cause the online activation doesn't also enable your Vision
account, likely handled by a different computer system.

If this is true, which apparently is, you would think there would be
some sort of explanation on the on line site, to keep everyone from
    wasting time
