I thought AT&T bought out the PrimeCo line.

Technically, this is incorrect. The only map that Verizon Wireless has
that shows 100% blanket coverage over the country is the map for the
National plan, which does in fact cover the entire country...with no
ROAMING charges. It does not claim that you will be able to make calls
from anywhere in the country with no problems. (In fact, if you look
in the fine print underneath the maps on Verizon's website, as well as
on Sprint's, it says clearly that actual coverage may vary.) The
America's Choice and Local Digital Choice maps both show that there are
areas that you will NOT be able to make calls without incurring roaming
charges. NO company can show you a map that says "This shows the areas
where you will be able to make calls with no problems", as this is
impossible, when you consider factors such as interference with signal,
type of handset, cell tower outages, etc. Any company that tells you
"This map shows you exactly where you can and cannot pick up a signal
    with us." is clearly lying.
