Did some quick math on the current 2000 minute plan w/ vision & 1
additional line (total 2 phones) vs comparable plan earlier this year:
$122.50 vs $85.00, or up over 44%! Even more if you include the various
taxes and fees, and factor in all the additional conditions (look at
footnotes in service plans.)
It looks like SPCS has made the decision to no longer be a price leader
for mobile phone service.

Re: SPCS rates way up
I thought that the $85 dollar plan did not include Vision though. Oh
well even at $122.50 they are still the price leader in wireless. here
are prices of other wireless companies that I have just checked via
carrier websites. Sprint stomps the competition when it comes to
larger bucket family plans
Sprint PCS: $115 / month + $10 for 2nd line + $5.00 Mobile-Mobile
2500 Anytime Min + Unl Nights & Weekends
Unlimited Mobile-Mobile
Unlimited Data (primary line only) $7.50 for 2nd line
T-Mobile: $99.99 / month (2 lines included)
1200 Anytime Min Unl Mobile-Mobile
Unlimited Weekends (no nights)
No Data included
AT&T Wireless: $149.99 / month + $19.99 for 2nd line
2200 Anytime Min + Unlimited Nights & Weekends
1000 Mobile-Mobile Min
No Data Included
Verizon Wireless: $149.99 / month + $19.99 for 2nd line
2400 Anytime Min + Unlimited Nights & Weekends
1000 Mobile-Mobile Min
No Data Included
Cingular Wireless: $149.99 / month + $9.99 for 2nd line
2,000 Anytime Min + 5,000 Nights & Weekends
No Data Included

Re: SPCS rates way up
Question, did the 2nd line charge drop recently for the higher minute
rates, seems like it was $20?

Re: SPCS rates way up
Yes, line #2 used to be included and lines #3-4-5 were $20 each.
Now, lines #2-3-4-5 are $10 each.

Once you're at $100/month and above:
Vision is free for first line, still $7.50 /month per additional line.
Add-a-phone is $10 a month, but now requires a "Advantage Agreement".

Clarification: Lines 2 through 5 are $17.50, assuming you want them to have
Vision.

T-Mobile is now the clear leader in low priced plans per minute, unfortunately
they're also German owned, and have the least coverage of any of the Nationwide
providers.

Proving once again you get what you pay for. T-Mobile has always been
the cheapest and has always had the least coverage. Even before Deutsche
Telekom owned the network.

but most people are using more minutes now (usually only having a cell
as primary means of communication) so we are looking at higher minute
plans not lower ones

Yeah, if you live in an area with great TMobile coverage, they're really
great. You get quite a lot of mintues.

Except, like Sprint, they seem to have major billing problems.
Maybe they're even worse. I had an incorrect bill my first month (at
least I'm sure I did, but I hadn't thought to put detailed billing on
my account and they wouldn't issue a detailed bill after the fact and
I didn't feel like arguing about it). Other friends of mine have had
problems with billing during the first month. But generally the billing
issues seem to get ironed out after that. OTOH I know at least a couple
people who have had ongoing billing issues with TM.

I don't doubt that. I had so many minutes to use though, I had the same
bill most every month. I've also never known anyone else with T-Mobile.
All my friends use ATT or Nextel.

If you used Verizon, to get detailed billing you would have to pay $1.99 /
month! I will always have detailed billing with Sprint until the day comes
that I can still review the details online and have the paper bill sent a
simple billing. Seems easy enough, but unfortunately, Sprint's software
developers have not inspired any awe in me so far (I am sure that the good
ones are held down by the past sins of the bad ones).

Re: SPCS rates way up
You can view your detailed Verizon bill online for free. There is only a
charge if you want a paper detailed bill.

Well if you're the type earning 250,000 frequent flyer miles a year, then thats
important. But maybe some people live in areas where T-Mobile's coverage is
better than some other carriers, perhaps even Sprint in a few cases.
