Is it possible to get Verizon's 1XRTT access working on a Sprint PCS
phone? I know it is possible to get Verizon's voice service working on
a Sprint phone (I have done this myself) but I do not know whether it
is possible to get Verizon's 1XRTT working on a Sprint phone. I am
specifically interested in the soon to be offered by Sprint Sony
Ericsson T608 Bluetooth phone. Thank you.

They use the same systems, but your ESN would have to be flagged as 3G,
which is 10,000 times harder than just getting the phone activated...

The T608 will be released with Sprint PCS, though it may be a very
    limited release...

Just write it down when your phone is activated?

Sony Ericsson stopped development of new CDMA phones, but the T606 and
T608 were already developed at the time that happened. Sony Ericsson
still maintains a staff of 20-25 people in the U.S. to support their
existing CDMA models - including the T606 and T608.

That doesn't mean they will or won't reach the market, just that it's
    possible they still will.

A couple days ago my phone when into digital roam on Verizon's 1xRTT
network. Interesting enough, Vision tried to authenticate on it. It
opened up the traffic channel, started sending data back and forth to
authenticate, and it eventually told me invalid username/password.

I suspect that they are using very similar applications on the
    authentication side.....

    They are

    Compliments of Qualcomm.

It's easy. You get it when you activate if you know what you are doing.

Are both Verizon and Sprint making use of mobile IP? What prevents me
from using a valid VZW login, assuming i had a usable proxy "gateway"?

Verizon's security protocols are much more laxed. It is very easy to
provision a Sprint phone on Verizon's Express Network, and since
store-level techs can do this, there isn't much stopping you.

Sprint on the other hand is much more difficult. A trouble ticket has
to be sent to the help desk, and a secret group that has access to
Sprint's ESN database handles the entry.

Sprint also provisions 3G phones differently (unlike VZW). Sprint
requires that the phone's ESN be flagged as either WW, Vision, or
neither, Verizon doesn't do this, and let's the phone request the
    proper data server.

In other words, VZW and Sprint are using the same technology, just
Sprint makes it a lot harder, if not impossible, to use a non-Sprint
    phone on-network.

No, Sprint and Verizon do not have roaming agreements to cover data, and
Verizon is not particularly interested in them.

I'm sure the feeling is mutual on SprintPCS's side. :-)

There has been a lot of friction in the past between the two carriers
(Verizon and SprintPCS). I've noticed in Sprint's newer PRLs there are
    fewer and fewer Verizon SIDs.

Too bad, too, they could be mutualy beneficial to each other in a huge
    way.

It's hard to say, really. I do know that Sprint's J2ME service is
different from Verizon's BREW based system, so using the WAP browser is
probably out. However you may be able to use the phone as a tethered
    connection.

I wouldn't hedge your bets on the T608. I've pretty much given up on
this phone myself. There have been tons and tons of rumours regarding
its release, and all have been wrong so far.

It won't work, at least the way the networks are set up now. Verizon uses a
simple IP setup and Sprint uses a Mobile IP setup, they authenticate
differently and they don't have each others user/pass data. If or when they
offer inter carrier 1x they will have to include this info with the rest of
    you subscriber data.
