Is the $175 fee for each phone on a plan or for the whole plan? I'm in
a plan with my family, I think it's the Free and Clear plan with
Vision, two year contract. My parents will let me get off the plan and
go to Verizon if I pay all the associated fees, and they'll let me
have the phone I have now for $100, and I'm going to sell it on ebay
and use the profit (it should got for $150 at least) to help pay for a
Verizon phone. So do I have to pay $175 to remove my phone from my
family's plan, or will sprint remove it for free.
The reason is because Sprint doesn't work where I want to use it. My
parents don't use the phones much so they don't mind, they mostly got
the plan to keep in contact with my sister and me. They're kinda
technophobes, and they're paranoid of getting extra charges, so they
won't even let me download ringers or games, even if I pay them back.
That's partly why I want to get out of their plan and get my own
Verizon plan, 100% mine to do whatever I want with.
Thanks,
Keith

Until recently, Add-a-Phones did not ordinarily carry term agreements
("contracts") of their own, so you should be able to cancel without a
termination fee.

You can download various ringers and games from public Web sites for free
(assuming you subscribe to Vision). Of course, free games don't generally meet
the quality level of the games Sprint offers.

If you signed up for your plan before September 1, then the
Add-A-Phones are NOT under contract so you cancel all but the primary
line without paying the $150 ETF. If you got your plan after September
1, they're all under contract.

Last March I changed plans to a Vision plan and added my Wife onto the plan
(it was a subsidized phone .. an A460 for $30). In the paperwork we
received, it specifically mentioned a $150 ETF for each line. So, my advice
to you is to check your contract (usually printed on the reciept). I think
that if your phone is subsidized (most are if you buy them at retail
outlets) you are likely bound by an ETF.

That is not true at all! Both of our phones are bound by an ETF, and our
plan and phone purchase is from the end of March. I purchased one phone
from Costco to replace my phone (A400 -> A500) and I purchased an A460 for
my wife from the Sprint PCS store for $30. We are on a F&C 500 minute plan
with an add-a-phone.

One would think that if you are a student or new graduate, moving to
where Sprint can not provide service some accomodation can be made.
Maybe not, at least for SprintPCS the Early Termination is Fee is $150,
not the $175 fee verizon charges.

Actually Sprint does work where I go, but very very badly. Voices are
all garbled unless I stand completely still. Sometimes it goes into
digital roaming on Verizon and everything's good then.

I'll just give them a call today when i get home to ask them about it.

Don't ask, make them produce. Tell them: The phone is "Not Fit for
Purpose"; what can you do for me? i.e. Here is my suggestion:
1. I return phone, you waive ETF
2. I get an FCA plan with no 50% limit.
3. I write to State Attornet General that
you are practicing a "Deceptive Trade Practice"
namely requiring me to stay on contract when you can'y provide
service.
GOOD LUCK and report back

If he reports back after already posting his problem, he runs the risk of
being called a liar or a troll.

Re: Termination fee to remove phone from plan?
I started my plan in April directly from Sprint and there is no such
verbage in my contract that I could find. Although it does not
specifically say there is NO fee on the add a phones, It does mention
the fee on the paperwork for the first line.

If you started your plan in April and have not had your contract
restarted since September 1 then there are no contracts on
Add-A-Phones.

If he starts posting as if every thread is about his circumstances,=20
quite likely. If he just reports on his own situation, not at all.

Jeepers - you do that, sometimes bragging you don't know (like when Treo 600 is
due out). Guess that makes YOU A TROLL by your own definition.

My purchase (for the second phone) was directly from a Sprint (not Horizon)
retail store. That may be what the difference is. You can always call and
ask them what the ETF and then naively ask if it is for both lines. Of
course, the rep may not know what he/she is talking about anyway ...
