So if it won't work indoors, and only cuts down the battery life trying to, why
not turn it off when going indoors?

i turn mine off in the bunker. it's not like i can make or receive a
call under those conditions when it doesn't have a signal. like i
said, otherwise i easily get 4-5 days of standby without any problems.
