    Can SprintPCS survive ?

Sprint is hurting, just announced yesterday a $1 billion/year cutback, which
could mean 10,000 layoffs. SprintPCS has never made dollar 1 of profit, Sprint
published twice as many press releases today as normal to push the $1 billion
dollar one out of the news. SPRINT IS IN A DEATH SPIRAL, and the
cheerleaders are fiddling about Justin, Tom, Rob and Phillipe, rather than
discussing whether there will be a Sprint Cellular a year from now.

You sound like you want SPCS to fail ...

If they do go bankrupt, does that mean they are obligated to pay all of
us with contract a $150.00 early termination fee?

That doesn't sound good to me because I've been a Sprint customer for
five years. With the possible layoffs, this might drive current
customers away from Sprint and sign with others carriers. And when
Number Portability coming into effect in late November, Sprint might
experienced such an exodus. I don't want that to happen to me. But this
is not good news for Sprint and their customers.

If you look over the past year every other provider from verizion on down
    have had big layoffs.

    That's funny.

Good luck collecting if that's the case. Unsecured creditors get dumped
at the bottom of the list of people to pay when you file bankruptcy.

Not true- Nextel hasn't laid off since April 2002 (when they outsourced
and reorganized their Customer Care) and actually has quite a few job
openings posted on their web site.

How did you get this out a "reorganization" plan? They talked about
    saving money- not firing people.

SprintPCS will not go out of business, in fact, they're not even talking
about Chapter 11 yet, so its far away. I've worked for a company in
Chapter 11, and they still pushed out products to sell (in fact, its
been 3 years and they're still around)

Reorganization plans do not save money unless you cut your biggest
expense. Salaries. Where do you think the $1 billion will come from?
With number portability, income could be going down as carriers compete
    for migrating customers.

Perhaps ... but I think I will keep the copper cables feeding the Sprint PCS
antennas on my local tower ... if they make my investment worthless

A streamlining of costs doesn't necessarily mean that the company is
hurting. Why not try quoting the press release instead of your biased
    interpretation of it?

The press release states that Sprint plans in achieving these costs
through the elimination of redundancy. That actually sounds like a good
thing to me. Less runaround, less layers of people to go through to get
    your problem solved.

A streamlining of operations can actually be a pretty positive thing.

    -----
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -(Dow Jones)- Sprint Corp. (FON, PCS) said as it
pushes forward with its plan to bundle local, long-distance and wireless
phone service, it will also streamline operations with the goal of
cutting expenses by 5% to 7% , amounting to about $1 billion in savings
    a year.

Sprint, the nation's third largest carrier by revenue, said in a press
release Wednesday that it aims to grow faster than its competition
through the integration of its disparate phone operations.

The company said it expects to tap a new consumer market through this
new " national local" package offering. Through local resale, Sprint has
already expanded its local presence from 5% to more than 80% of the U.S.
    population, the company said.

Sprint said it plans to cut operating expenses through consolidation,
eliminating redundancies in its various operations, as well as by
    increasing automation.
