I don't know if everyone who owns a Samsung SPH-N400 agrees with me,
but I think it comes with really crappy ringtones. Crazy Chicken is
pretty fun, and is my current default ringer, but it's not really
appropriate in corporate settings. I'd like to have just a normal
    "ring" ringtone.

My company is cheap. They won't pay for the Vision option, and I
doubt they'd pay $1 for a ringtone download even if I had Vision. I'm
cheap too and don't want to shell out $15/month for Vision since it's
not something I'd ever use besides this one time for a ringotne; I
just use my phone as a phone.

What are my options for new ringtones other than downloading through
PCS Vision? I was thinking of buying a data cable for easier updates
of the phone book; does it provide the functionality of uploading
ringtones? I've seen some good postings on how to publish a ringtone
to a website. Does Sprint offer pay-per-usage Vision-type service so
I could post a ringer to my own site and download it?

Yes, Sprint PCS has a per use plan for Vision. Depending on your plan
it is either 1 cent or 2 cents per kilobyte of usage.

There are plenty of sites on the net that will allow you to send a new
ringtone to your phone. Do a search for N400 ringtones.
http://www.craiggiven.com/pcs.htm also has links to sites and
information on how to do this as well as create and upload your own
ringtones... BTW - I am not affiliated with the site. It's not the
best or easiest to use but the information is there...

The N400 actually comes with "normal" ringtones, too. When you set a=20
ringer on the phone, for whatever purpose, there's a "Ringer Category"=20
option, and there are several "regular" ringtones under the option=20
    (fittingly) for "Ring Tones"

    I work for SprintPCS
    I *don't* speak for them.

I think the N400 had a software update that added a "generic" ringer (it
was either the N400 or A500). I don't have my list with me, but I'll
get it today and double check it.

I was wrong, there was no software update for the N400 like that (I
found a soft copy of the list on my computer at home).

    That was for the A460..

I'll look around a little more at work today.
