Unfortunately, probably not by SPCS personnel at the store, as most
newer phones have a different address book format than the 4700.

You might look at Snap Sync, as you can do it that way, however you
probably then need two different cables to connect the old and new
phones to the USB port on your computer.

Which model is your new phone?

From the 4700 to the Treo, definitely not.

It might be a long shot, but a store *MIGHT* be able to do the swap from
    the 4700 to the 4900.

The 4700 and 4900 have very different connectors, which could be an
    impediment.

The stores have connection for most of the phones, and should have for
the 4000/4500/4700 and 4900/5300/8100, all connected though at least one
    12-way serial (DB9) switch and/or a 4-way USB switch (don't ask me why
they're using a switch and not a hub, which would have been a lot more
    user friendly and cheaper).

Its just a flick of a switch and/or a few clicks of the mouse.

Not only that, phonebook transfers between any phone is never 100%,
there are many factors that could make it not possible (corrosion,
damage to the data storage, etc..).

The store should not be able to transfer phone books from the 4700 to
the 4900, they can only transfer to same phones with some rare
    exceptions.

It never hurts to take it to them and try, but i really doubt that they
    can transfer it.

I've done them before. With the software the stores always used with
updates and phonebooks, it can be done with the 4000, 4500, 4700, 4900,
    5000, 5150, 6000, 6200, 6400 (I haven't tried it with the 5300 or 8100).

    The tech has to:

Connect the 4700, select the 4700 part of the software, read the
information from the phone, then save it to a file on the computer.

Connect the 4900 and go to the 4900 part of the software, then read the
file into the program, then write it to the phone.

Also, if there is any damage to the dataport (corrosion etc..) it will
not work and if there is any damage ot the data, it will not work.

All the techs i know won't transfer the data. Most say it can't be
done. I'm glad you get one to work and hope others have good luck too.

I just love it when the "experts" disagree. It happens daily.

Considering its not a too-well known fact, then its easy for many techs
not to know. (Which is why I orig. said they *might* be able to do it)

I've tried to push out the information, but it never went very far.

What general area are you, Brandt? I'll see if I know any techs out
there who can send out a 'refresher course' email.

Besides. Experts disagree all the time. Anyone remember what Einstein=20
said about quantum mechanics? Or have you seen the varying "experts"=20

Comparing the Sprint employee ho post here to Einstein is like comparing
    Shinola to other things.
