I got a Sanyo 5300 phone from Radio Shack yesterday. The main pourpose
of getting it was to connect it to my laptop so I could surf the web
without having to view it in the tiny phone screen.

I got software at Radio Shack for connecting it but they didn't have
the data cable I needed so I got the cable at Best Buy.

I installed the software and connected the usb to the laptop but
couldn't get it to work so I called Sprint Customer Support. They told
me they don't support the Future Dial software I got from Radio Shack
so I went to the Sprint Website and downloaded their software.

Their software won't recognize my phone. I called Customer Support
again and now they say the don't support connecting my laptop thru a
data cable at all. In one breath they say you can do it but if you use
too much time on the web they will Suspend your Account.

What kind of a deal is this? The offer software to connect then the
don't help you connect with it and threaten to suspend your account.

They say that the only thing they support is their air card. I looked
at them too but you don't have cell phone capability with them so I
opted for the cell phone with unlimited pcs vision. Now I can't get it
to work and Their Customer Support won't help.

Anyone here know how to make this thing connect to my laptop?

Re: Sprint threatend to suspend my account.

The short answer is your question is that yes, it is physically possible to
connect your phone to a laptop, but your contract with SPCS specifically
disallows that. They have would have every right to suspend your account.
If you want to use a laptop, they want you to purchase the $80/unlimited
data plan, not the $15 unlimited Vision plan (which is only for Vision on
your phone). That being said, if you use it a "little", they probably won't
care. Kinda like driving 65 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. It's technically wrong,
and the cops probably won't pull you over, but you never really know where
that line in the sand is.

Since you got the phone yesterday, you should probably consider whether you
want to risk getting your account suspended (and getting hit with the EFT)
or just return the phone. T-Mobile does have an unlimited
connect-your-laptop-to-your-phone plan for $20 extra I believe. If you
decide to risk it, I'm sure someone here will help you set it up.

There's probably someone who can help you. But SPCS won't. Too many=20
problems with multi-gigabyte use, and so the company has disallowed all=20
such use. If you keep it to a minimum, you're *probably* safe, but=20
here's the in-writing policy on it:

    http://tinyurl.com/eidw :

    ***
Sprint may deny or terminate service without notice where use is in=20
connection with server devices or host computer applications, other=20
systems that drive continuous heavy traffic or data sessions, or as=20
substitutes for private lines or frame relay connections. PCS Vision=20
Packs are: (a) only available with a Vision capable PCS Phone or PCS=20
smart phone device; and (b) not available with Connection Cards,=20
Aircards, or any other device used in connection with a computer or PDA=20
    - including phones, smart phones or other devices used with connection=20
kits or similar phone-to-computer/PDA accessories. PCS Vision Packs are=20
also not available with Bluetooth Vision capable PCS Phones used as a=20
modem in connection with other devices.

    (b) is what applies here. "PCS Vision Packs are... not available=20

If we catch you at it, *any* of it, we can and will remove your Vision=20

    $10/MB.

The cheap T-Mobile rate is only through December 31.

Just out of curiosity, where, on their web site, do
    they "promote" it?

While I wish you were right, I've got the gut feeling

Hey all, thanks for the info. Looks like I'm going to pack this
worthless Sprint Phone up and take it back to Radio Shack.

The really sad part is I bought it becaquse they promote this function
on their web site but then they don't support it. Talk about a
    double-talk way of doing business.

    Go to: http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/co...NewZipCode.jsp

    click "Help Center"
    click "Find Answers"
    click "PCS Wireless Web"
read "What is PCS Wireless Web Connection"

If you log on with your cell number and password you can even download
their software to connect it but when you request support for it they
    won't help.

Thats all for the old wireless web (2G, 14.4kbpS) not Vision web.

They did promote it for that because the data calls went though the same
bandwidth that the voice calls used.

The reasoning they don't allow it with Vision is because people used it
for a cheap DSL line, thus bogging down the network.

The "unlimited Vision" plans (with the exception of the PCMCIA cards)
are for viewing it though the phone.

Re: Sprint threatend to suspend my account.

Hate to tell you, but Wireless Web and Vision are completely different
things. WW, which is 2G technology, will let you connect your phone to a
laptop (or just use the phone browser). The catch is that the time you are
online gets counted against your available minutes. The speed for WW is
    approx the same as 14.4k.

Vision, however, is 3G technology. It doesn't count against your minutes
and it's in theory up to 144k. The unlimited vision is limited to just your
phone. So, the link you read is wrong. The software you downloaded off of
Sprint's site, by itself, will not let you connect a phone to a laptop.
That software is meant for the PC card.

One can see, however, where Traxcat was "misinformed."

The page where Traxcat got his/her info doesn't go into
2G vs 3G specifics... It's probably time for an update.

If its on the website, dont let them charge you a penny, and refuse to

They only promote that with the 2G wireless web, not Vision.

Sprint PCS never referred to the 3G "web" as "Wireless Web" , it has
    always been the "Vision" web.
