Earlier this past summer I called sprint about some charges on my
invoice. After everything was clarified the agent said they would
give me two months of Voice Command and Wireless Web. I said I had no
need for those services, but he said there was no charge. I agreed.
I assumed that the services would be dropped at the end of the two
months, but they weren't. I received an invoice that included an
extra $10 for the services. I called and complained and they were
removed from the invoice. My September bill also had the $10 charge.
When I called, the agent said I never asked to have the services
canceled and he would not remover the charges. Yesterday, I canceled
my Sprint PCS account and I am now a Verizon user. Verizon offers
more features at a cheaper price and Verizon's signal is stronger than
Sprint's at my home. I use my cell phone for all my long distance
calls.

They did the same to me, too. I had to call and get the Voice Command
charges refunded after they told me it would be free for two months after I
told them I wasn't interested.

I have yet to find a apples to apples plan comparison between Verizon and
Sprint PCS where the price is cheaper with Verizon.
Could you list your new plan and the corresponding fees?

Exactly why I didnt get Vision on my Palm Phone. I ended up racking up a
total of $3 in Vision charges the two months it woulda been free.
And for the rest of my time with Sprint, I'm way ahead wioth their
current pricing. A coupla a bucks a month for my a-la-carte useage of
the web, versus the $15 they'd charge me otherwise.

They never are, not with any carrier I know of. Verizon's promotions work
the same way too - you get the services free for X months, or discounted,
and then it's regular price. Much like Charter Cable, which offered me HBO,
Skinamax and Showtime for two months for free. However, I called and
cancelled before the end of the two months because I don't watch any premium
channels enough to justify paying for them.
If I'd not cancelled, I would have paid $15/month for HBO and Skinamax,
and another $15/month for Showtime Unlimited - not worth it at all (not
to me, I rent videos or go to the theater to watch movies).

Those are certainly valid reasons to leave Sprint, but be aware - I am
both a Sprint PCS *and* Verizon customer (one SPCS phone, two Verizon phones),
and I can tell you as a longtime customer that if Verizon offers you a
promotion, you must cancel before the end of the promotional term or you will
be charged. Just like Sprint, and more than likely, just like all the other
carriers.
I personally don't ever assume that a promotion will automatically cancel -
think about it; the whole reason for offering it for free or at a discount
is to let you try it out and, hopefully, get you to use it.
What you should have done is told the rep "I don't need it, thanks." We've
turned down WW and Voice Command several times because we don't need either.

Re: Scam
I use the family share plan with two phones. The sprint info is what
I had, but I didn't see that exact plan on their current web site.
Sprint with two phones:
$69.99/mo
400 anytime minutes
1600 night and weekend minutes
no long distance charges within their coverage
Verizon with two phones:
59.99/mo
400 anytime minutes
unlimited night and weekend minutes
1000 Verizon to Verizon cell phone
no long distance charges within their coverage
I pay only 51.99 because they give employees of my company a
discount.
In both cases, I opted for the free phones. My phones from Sprint
were nearly 3 years old and I now have a new phones. I assume the old
phones' batteries were near the end of their life and the newer phones
are more advanced because of advances in technology.

After 2 free months, would it not be logical to assume that they would start
charging ?
I did the same thing, didn't really need the service but forgot to cancel it
so I figured oh well dumb me and paid the $10.
At some point of time,as adults,we must be responsible for our own
decisions.
You should be well aware that in any type of deal like this, unless you take
the couple minutes of time to manually cancel, you will be automatically
charged,so its real tough to feel you pain.
Good luck with verizon its not like their made of gold when it comes to
consumer gripes either.
They use the exact same marketing ploys and enticements as any other
carrier.
Great your service is better - Around my neck of the woods verizon blows
and just about everyone I know has either switched over to sprint or ATT.

I made a call to Sprint after I got my Aug. invoice and it was removed
from that invoice, but it appeared again on the Sep. invoice and I was
told it would not be removed. Why would they remove it from the Aug.
invoice if I hadn't requested a cancellation at that time? I don't
get where you get the idea that I'm not being responsible for my
actions.
I understand that all providers have areas of poor reception and I've
received a Sprint signal in areas where the Verizon signal was nil,
but at my home, the opposite is true and that's where I make most of
my calls. From what I can tell, Verizon has more national coverage
than does it's competition.

As a courtesy to a customer they want to keep.

Well, I personally don't know that "irresponsible" is the right word
to describe you.

But that's a separate issue. If by moving from SPCS to Verizon you got
better coverage, that's cool, but the core question here is whether you
should have been upset about not having the features cancelled.
I figure it this way: Sprint was wrong not to clarify that the features
had to be explicitly cancelled, but you should have expected that they'd
start charging you after the promotional period - just because it's a common
marketing ploy. On the other hand, I'm a little confused about why you didn't
say "cancel me permanently" after the first charge (although I still don't
think you were being irresponsible).

Re: Scam
Yeah Phill everything is a rip-off mentality..
Ever figure it as this:
You try it for two months and you like it, you leave it on.
You don't like and decide not to keep it, you call in and have it
removed.
He could have also ASKED if it would automatically be removed.
plus its a real scam when that advertise that you have to remove it..
see below, take from Sprintpcs.com
After two months, customer will be invoiced $5 per month to continue PCS
Voice Command unless the customer contacts Sprint to cancel. Copyright

Re: Scam
When I initially signed up with Sprint, I bought a car adapter for
each phone. The adapters came with rebate coupons. They only
returned a rebate for one unit. I called and asked why, I was told I
put the two coupons and receipts in one envelope. They said I needed
to put each rebate request in a separate envelope. Of course the
coupons were no longer in my possession to resubmit. I never found
the reference to the "one per envelope" rule.

It's the job of Rebate redemption outsource companies to find excuses
not to pay. Continental Promotions in Phoenix, Arizona is a champion.

Sorry, I didn't record my conversation so I can't say for sure exactly
how I worded my request.
The signal strength was just another issue to consider when I decided
to change providers.
