    Hello,

    I have the Samsung 8500.
I've had this phone for about 4 years now, its great!

The charger that came with the phone has the light to tell you how the
    charging is going:
    Green - Done
    Red - Charging
Flashing - problem with the charge

Lately, I would put the phone in the charger and after a few minutes
it would be green. (but its obviously not fully charged, based on the
battery bar on the screen) Sometimes it would have the flashing light.
After taking it off and putting it back a few times, it charges
normally. (red light stays on for about a hour or so - normal length
of time to charge the phone)

The battery is about 2 years old.

Does this sound like a problem with the charger or the battery?

    Thank you

At 2 years your battery is geriatric. Do you have a genuine
Samsung Charger or a $5 cheapo.

Take it into a SprintpCS store and see what they say

Battery. I believe the 8500 had a stock LiIon battery and those generally
give out within two years with normal usage.

More likely the battery ... As mentioned by others, you probably want
to take the phone to your local SPCS store, and get it tested out. As
the phone and charger is 4 years old and a replacement battery will
cost you $40 to $60 OEM, you might want to consider getting a new
phone. With these newer 3G models, you should experience a much longer
    battery life between charges ...

Lots more stuff on the phones now as well, better phone books, cameras
(if that interests you), speaker phone, color screens etc ...

One more thing to add. As there is considerable age on both the
charger and the battery, the contacts on both the charger and battery
might need cleaning ... You might try using a pencil eraser on both
units and scrubbing the contact points and see if that helps out.

I would agree with both Phillipe and Tom. I have not had a phone long
enough for a battery to go out on me, but I know how old the 8500 is,
and I would tend to think that you hould get a replacement battery.

Also, like with what Phillipe said, I would also take it all into a
Sprint store and have it tested and checked to be on the safe side.

    Good luck,
    Eric

just a little addition to your post Bob..

IF you insist on keeping this phone.. There are many wireless accessory
sites on the web were you can get a replacement battery and chargers
non-oem and oem for pretty cheap.. You can also check ebay as well for
    good deals..

One of my sons inherited a good grey (not bad black) 8500 from me, and
his battery went bad. he took it into a SprintPCS store near to where he
lives, they concluded the free car charger I got from a Department store
with the phone was the problem, and they GAVE him a new battery on a 2
year old phone. Nicest thing I ever heard a Sprint store do.

That is a nice thing for that store to do. I, for one, hardly *ever*
use third-party accessories for this exact purpose. All of my
accessories I have for my Kyocera 2325 on Verizon are first party
(bought directly from the VZW store) because I know that I am assured
complete compatibility, and if something does go wrong with it, I would
be covered. Not so much cases and holtsters, but especially with
    chargers and extra batteries.

Chances are it is you battery. Most LiIon products are designed for a
2-3 year lifespan. The fact that you got 4 years out of it means you
did no t abuse it. I would go shopping for a replacement battery if you
like the phone, or see if anyone will give you a free phone with a
    warranty somewhere else.
