Hi, I was wondering if anyone else was having problems with their Nokia
3588i, for those of you who bought one.
I picked one up this past weekend, to replace my at-death's-door 3 year
old TouchPoint 2100. However, regardless of the signal strength, I'm
getting a crackly/fuzzy noise, both when I talk and when I listen to
whoever is talking to me over the phone. It's not that bad, but it's
quite noticeable. Did I just get a bum phone, or is this a problem with
the series? Otherwise, the phone is quite nice.
Also, I've heard that if you get a data cable for this phone, you can
download ringers/screensavers/etc. Is the cable/phone software
compatible with Macs, or older versions of windows (e.g. not XP)?
Thanks.

Re: Nokia 3588i problem
Return the phone if the sound quality is bad. It won't get better with time.
The 3588i cant doi Vision, so I dont know about downloads.

Re: Nokia 3588i problem
Normally two possibilities here:
1) Poor signal strength resulting in low quality calls
2) A phone issue
One thing you can do to define it is when you are talking to another
party on the phone, ask them if they can hear the static as well... if
they can then it is a signal issue, if it is only one way and they can't
hear it, it is an issue with your ear-piece most likely.

Can't be that, or does Sprint lie in its adds:
Crystal Clear Calls it says.

Well, the first phone call I made (received, actually) was from my
house, where I get a pretty poor signal. However, I've called from
there using my old phone, and have never had any problems with static,
although I had a fair amount of dropped calls and fading in and out
sound. The person I was speaking to could tell right away that I was on
a different phone, or that something was wrong with the phone, because
the quality was pretty poor.
This doesn't seem to be a signal issue, since this happens regardless of
signal strength.
I'm going to exchange this unit for sure, I just wanted to know if
anyone else has had a similar problem with this phone (or any other).

They just reduced the price to free. (Does that say anything about how good a
phone it is?)

No.
Though I gave up on Nokia a while ago, it means nothing that the price is
free - except that it's positioned as a cheapie phone, which makes sense
because it's a no-frills phone with only a handful of the features other
phones have (even with the color screen).
Kinda like the Kyocera 2325 that I got for $60 from Verizon (but could have
paid $30 for had I opted for a two-year contract extension instead of a one-
year). It's been offered for free since then. The phone rocks - it's just not
weighted down with tons of gadgets. It's certainly better than some of the
Motorola junk Verizon's sold lately.

If the phone is as good as the 3585i then you have a faulty phone. We 12 of
us use the 3585i with no problems. I suspect you should ask Sprint to
check out the phone

I have this phone too, having signed up with Verizon Wireless Prepay. I
agree, its a terrific little phone. How long have you had yours?

I bet that was a rhetorical question.
If Sprint thought it could get money for the phones it would. Brandt
assured us that they're losing money even at $149.
