I seem to get different answers every I call customer service. I currently
have the $10 50 minute roaming option. I would obviously prefer the Free
and Clear America option. One answer I get is that I already have it with
my plan, the other answer I get is that it's a $5.00 option but not
available on anything but the new plans. I have no clue how to go about
figuring out what the correct answer is.

    Thanks for the help.

This is one of the unfortunate problems with Sprint... Different Reps,
    different answers.

I've got an existing plan, called 2 days ago to add the $5/month
roaming option, and it was added immediately.

    2 things to note:

    1) Your roaming minutes can not excede half of your anytime minutes.
    2) As Bob Smith reminded me, the option is only available for those
customers in SPCS metro areas, not for customers who are in an affiliate's
    area.

Anybody know if they'll add F&CA option for $5 on an already existing
    "retention" plan?

I currently have the $10/mo roaming option where I can use half of my
total usage (anytime and N/W) while roaming. I called them and asked to
switch me to the $5/mo F&CA option starting november 1st. I assumed that
both roaming options were alike except for the price. But I've read here
that the new option is for roaming usage up to half of the anytime
minutes only. Is this correct? Should I call them back and keep my
    current $10/mo option?

A $10 roaming "bundle" has existed for a long time that includes roaming=20
minutes, but not LD while roaming. So it's hard to say for certain=20
what's on your account. However, in some affiliate network areas,=20
that's also the price and availability of F&CA. Because they took the=20
risk with us of building our network in that area, they get a say in=20
optional offers like F&CA. They can fully participate, or there are two=20
different options for them: $10/month packages with either 50 or 100=20
minutes of included roaming. They can also choose not to participate at=20
    all.

As a result, it's possible you've got F&CA already. Or you may only=20
have the older bundles that predate F&CA. Without looking at your=20
    account, it's impossible to say.

I have it, and it is for Night and weekend minutes as well. Even on the
website, when I check my usage, it says, "Roaming Night and weekend
    minutes remaining..."

Wait a sec - half of anytime minutes or half of minutes used?

So, half your anytime minutes is less than the 50 minutes you get with the
$10 add-on? Why would you call back and use the old add-on rather than F&CA
add-on? Another valuable difference is that long-distance while roaming is
    also covered.

The former ... I had the same deal @ $10 and got it reduced to $5 a
    month

Yes, it does work the same. I thought you had posted that you had the
add-on for $10 that gave you 50 minutes of roaming. I see know you said 50%
    and not 50 minutes.

I suspect that Sprint was probably not getting a significant amount of
business from the F&CA plan because of the plan change required (and a
contract extension would be required as well). The add-on is probably a
money maker for them because the majority of their customers likely do not
roam (even with LD) an average of $5 in a month. I know I don't, but I
chose the option because I would rather know I am covered when I do roam,
even if it means that I end up paying a few dollars more per year.

I usually don't roam outside the SPCS network, but it is indeed nice to
be covered when I do roam. Right now I am in Mammoth Lakes, CA and I
am roaming on Verizon's 800MHz CDMA network. But the calls sound really
bad; almost like using analog. I just wonder how people are willing to
sign up for Verizon and have a crappy service like that. Calls on SPCS
    network sound much clearer.

Probably a Verizon system that is over capacity. 800 Mhz should be equally
    capable of a clear call.
