I have an Audiovox CDM-9155GPX that was previously used on Western
Wireless. I have a friend who has a malfunctioning phone and would like
to use mine for the time being. I have the MSL on the Vox. Is there
any way to change the MSL to a string of zeroes so that OTA updates will
    work with Verizon?

<groan> Now "About Dakota" is posting in this NG. Everytime my
mail reader encounters one of his posts, flashes:

The sender of this message has asked to be notified when you
read this message. Do you wish to notify the sender?
    [OK] [Cancel]

    and then locks up.

Maybe I have to run a script that marks all his messages as read
and then reopens them and sends a notification back to him that
I read his message....and run the script several hundred times
    an hour for a month.

Do you think he might get a hint?

While such behavior (notification request for reading Usenet messages)
would be annoying...maybe you should just ask him to turn it off?
Maybe he doesn't know it's happening?

Or, another way to deal with it...dump Outlook Express as a newsreader
and use Agent or Free Agent, like I do...no notification requests, and
even the non-pay version, Free Agent, is an infinitely better news
    client than OE.

I think the problem is yours, as I don't see that, and certainly if
your software locks up it is not his fault. Most of the time you can
configure email software to simply tell it to NEVER send the
    notifications.

Outlook and Outlook Express...I've heard of them before,
Aren't they for people whos computer skills are limited
to a double click on the icon mentality? <snicker>

Sorry, I did not realize my news reader was set up this way (it was by
default, and I do not get that message from my posts.

I [hopefully] changed the setting. Please post if you still get those
    receipt requests.

I'm using Outlook Express and I don't get these from him.

They were set up to go to your spam-blocked address. Have a look
at the headers of one of your earlier posts. They're fine now.

    I can't believe I'm defending a Micro$oft product, but Outlook (not the
Outlook Express toy) provides tools very useful in a business
environment, like integration with calender tools (for example, find
when people are free for a meeting), meeting alerts, company address
books, and so on. And Micro$soft has finally gotten the security
religion, so e-mail in newer versions now defaults to a very restrictive
environment (e.g., no JavaScript, VBscript, Java, no executable attachments).
