How to tell if phone is on?

Without placing a voice call, is there a way to tell if a certain Sprint
phone is on?

how can you tell even if u place a voice call? a lot of phones have a
setting to forward a call directly to voice mail so u wouldn't know if the
phone is off or they have the call forwarded.

Check the screen, you can usually see words or a logo.

I am sure he means to check if someone else's phone is on at another
location. If the phone is off and you try calling them the voicemail
usually kicks in right away. If they are simply ignoring the call the
voicemail will kick in after 30 seconds or - that's how long the ringer
willplay anyway.

If they are on the internet or already on a 3-way call it should kick to
voicemail too.

Some people have call waiting turned off and that will kick it directly to
voicemail.
