Hi all,
I'm looking for a phone that can sync directly with a SyncML server.
Does anyone know if any Motorola phones can do that? Nokia? Any others?
Anyone find a sweet spot for price vs features? Is BREW the wiz/bang
hottest thing?
More:
I've been researching phones, and i'm convinced that although many say
'SyncML' I'd wager that most of these are referring to using some sort
of PC/Windows-based Phone Tools software to sync with
Outlook/Palm-Desktop. For example, my current phone is a V60i and I use
TrueSync from Starfish to sync calendar and contacts. For now I'll
assume that native SyncML support is very limited, not readily
patchable, and I'll need to rely on uploadable apps like Magic4,
FusionOne, etc.
So if anyone can share the fruits of thier labor in researching phones
I'd greatly appreciate it.
I'm looking to upgrade to a phone that has:
1. SyncML directly with an Internet server. I'm using/testing horde and
sync4j,
2. Nice calendar/contacts apps and large screen (I'd like to ditch my
PDA, so I was bent on a PalmOS phone (I have lots of Palm apps I'd
really miss) or one that runs Opera browser, tho none except Treo ($$$)
have high resolution - PalmOS also has SyncML clients... Alas, too
limiting),
3. Not Symbian or (due to reports that syncing is unstable) or M$,
4. Upgradable memory (or at least 16MB),
5. USB for laptop dialup, (bluetooth/IRDA nice, but not overly
important),
6. CDMA & GSM (okay not really important to have both, but I'm thinking
of jumping ship from Verizon to T-Mobile cuz I have no land line and TM
has cheaper plans for high minutes & Friends+Family)
Models I have my eye on are:
A840 (is that out yet? I can't find one -- perhaps there's a new
model# for US release?) which is BREW, GSM/CDMA, 1xRTT & GPRS,
upgradeable memory, etc;...
Moto V710 (no GSM, and Sync requires Mobile Phone Tools Software; tho
it's BREW -- anyone know of a BREW SyncML client _that_works_?)
I'm also considering a temporary compromise on Moto V65p because I
already have cables, chargers, sync software, and extended batteries.
This would be cheap and allow me to stay month-to-month until I find
the ultimate phone+plan. But again, tho its specs say 'SyncML', can
anyone verify that this is a PC-based software feature or can I
actually enter the URL of my SyncML server directly into the phone and
sync with a PC base station?
Thanks all!!!

Re: SyncML directly (without PC) -- which phones?
I use www.mobical.net to maintain the calendar and address book on my Nokia
6620. It works GREAT!
