I am looking for some suggestions and advice on using cellphones during
my visit to the US in late September. I will be on the East Coast
(Cambridge, Boston and NYC) for about 10 days and would like to have
access to a mobile phone. Since the US cellular phone network is
different from what we have in Europe I should be grateful for some
advice.
Which is the best (cheapest, most convenient, best coverage) option for
me:
1. Buy a local GSM SIM which fits in my already existing triband
phone.[are there coverage issues?]. Which is a reliable, easily
procurable and refillable brand.
2. Buy a cheap TDMA phone and use it for this as well as future
trips.Which is a reliable , easily procurable and refillable brand?
-----
Additional question:
- Do you always get charged for receiving calls on all prepaid deals or
are there any 'inclusive' deals?
ANy help or advice will be appreciated, if there is a price comparison
site please let me know.
Regards

Re: Advice on local phone/sim for traveller....
Joseph,
Thanks very much for your prompt response. I will try and procure a
T-Mobile sim. You mentioned activation: what is that? Do I have to go
into a store to do that?
Are T-Mobile calling rates competitive with say TracPhone?
Best wishes
