    Hello:
I do not currently own a cell phone, but may be getting one soon.
Is it possible to get internet access through a cell phone only? What I
am not interested in is a cell phone that will get me only e-mail
access or a cell phone where I have to use it in conjunction with a
laptop or other type of computer in order to gain access. I just want
to be able to access the internet anywhere in the world strictly
through use of a cell phone. Is this possible? Please send a reply to
    my e-mail. Thanks.

What do you mean by"Internet access"? What you're asking is pretty
broad. What do you want? Not just e-mail; you mentioned that. SSH?
    Telnet? FTP? WWW?

"Internet" is a connection, and virtually all current phones will do
that. The question is what do you want to do with that connection? If
you want web access, many phones will do a so-called "mobile-web" with
specially-formatted web pages, but they lack the processing power and
the screen size to handle regular web pages.

Some units, such as the Palm Treo series, the Verizon 6600, or the
Samsung SCH-i730, have large color screens and run either the Palm or
PocketPC operating systems to allow better web page access.

Nobody's built a full computer that's the size of a cell phone, which
is what you'd need to completely duplicate what you're getting at home.
If you can be more specific about what you need, I'm sure you'll get
    better info.

No thanks. You ask in a newsgroup, you get your reply in the newsgroup
so everyone can benefit. This isn't a one-on-one medium.
