I was recently checking my credit report and I disovered a $200 fee
from a cell phone dealer a few years ago. Contacted the company they
informed me that the fee was for breaking a cell phone hardeware
cancellation contract. Is there anything I can do about this....

well you can file a dispute with the credit reporting
ageny -disputing the charges, then the credit reporting agency is
    required to verify the facts
and report back to you within 30 days,
if the company verifys the debt
then you are allowed to post a customer comment
    why you dispute the charges..
([but I have found most companies who review credti reports dont see to
    read those comments anyway]

How long ago is the item shown?

Keep in mind that if you dispute it, or pay it, it will reset the
last-touched date to today. Credit report items age off after a number
of years, varying by the laws in your area -- But if you dispute it, it
might get touched and will follow you around for even longer.

In fact, if the entry would expire in 7 years, and it's been 6, the
worst thing you could do is pay it (even if it's legit), you'd then
spend the next 7 years with that entry showing as overdue, paid after 6
    years.

The item is about 2 years old. I am thinking of challenging the
contract. The other option is to show evidence that the phone was
transfered over to the corporation. Not certain what the viability of
this is since I originally signed the contract.

If you signed the original contract, and failed to pay, then the report
    is accurate, no?

As long as it's accurate, what's the problem?
