I am considering buying a Razr. I know this is basic but this feature
didn't seem to be available in the LG VX3100 phone my wife got a
couple years ago and it is what she wants to have in any new phone:

Assign speed dial number to a person and then after entering the two
digit speed dial number, you get to cursor up or down to all numbers
(home, cell, or work) associated with that person. I can do this on
my LG VX8000. I would think this is basic stuff at this point so it
would be on the Razr. We just want to be sure of it before we upgrade
from the old phone that can't do this.

As I understand it, Razr's act dramatically different depending upon
the provider that you use. My Razr is with Verizon Wireless, and it
does NOT behave in the manner you desire. It actually assigns a
different speed-dial number to each phone number (as opposed to each
contact) in your contacts list. So, for example, John Doe's home pone
    might be speed dial 6 and John Doe's mobile phone number might be 7;
even though both the home and mobile phone numbers are part of the
    same contact.

If you don't use the speed-dial numbers, but rather go to the contact
list and scroll down to John Doe, then you can select that contact,
and the phone will display all of John Doe's numbers and allow you to
    choose.

Again, I emphasize that I think this behavior is Verizon specific, so
if you have a different provider, you should mention that provider and
see if you get a better answer.

    I have Verizon too.

So I called up the small store where I've bought phones and phone
plans before and asked the guy. He stated the same thing you did, but
stated it as a general policy that that's the way all phones work. So
I politely told him that my VX8000 doesn't work that way. And he
says, yes, LG works that way but Motorola doesn't.

If you hadn't also confirmed this I'd figure that he may another sales
guy that just doesn't know all the features of the phone.

    Thanks,

The sales rep is not as wrong as he sounds. As I understand it,
Verizon is moving toward having all it's providers burn Verizon brand
firmware into their phones. The Razr is one of these. Some phones,
however, still have their original firmware.

You could ask about which phones have this feature on
alt.cellular.verizon. They get a lot more traffic than this group,
and you might find a good phone.
