T-Mobile customer in CA. My phone can register either on Cingular or T-Mobile
here.
T-Mobile and Cingular, for many years, had a partnership where Cingular, and
AT&T Wireless before Cingular, used T-Mo's network in NYC because Cingular
didn't have a network there, and T-Mo used Pacific Bell Mobility (Cingular)
in CA and NV. The partnership was dissolved in 2005, and T-Mo bought
Cingular's network in CA and NV because Cingular had previously acquired AT&T
Wireless and, if I recall correctly, they needed to divest the CA/NV network
due to antitrust concerns.
Some older phones may say Cingular but unless you're in a rural area, you're
probably using T-Mo's network.
