I just had to go thru hell to get my free 120 minutes with their
    Refer-A-Friend program.

    Anyone else had problems?

I assume they often screw people when they can and I'm willing to
organize a lawsuit against them if there are several others.

The problem with the TracFone Refer-A-Friend promotion
is lack of communication from all parties involved: the person that
gets referred *and* TracFone Refer-A-Friend department.

The TracFone user (person that sends out the referral)
has to assume the person they refer activated their new
or refurbished phone correctly, then filled
out their referral form correctly, and submitted it correctly.
Getting the person (that was referred) to message back about the
status of their activation is hard.

Most of the people I send referrals to, I never hear from
again, whether they activate or not, or activate *and* receive
    their free minutes or not.

After the referral is sent, TracFone does not
communicate with either party again until the referral is
granted and emailed. If it is denied, you never hear from the
    TracFone Refer-A-Friend department.

Having said all this, and if all the procedures are followed,
including sending out the referrals before the date and time of
the new activation, *and* submitting the forms back to
TracFone *correctly*, the Refer-A-Friend promotion works.
....but even then its important for the referrer and referee to keep
in touch just in case things fall through the cracks.
More often this communication loop does not even exist.

*If* the referrer and referee keep in contact throughout the
process, the system works smoothly and
is nearly fool proof. Big *If*.

I have posted some other ideas to be on the look out
for concerning the TracFone Refer-A-Friend promotion on my
    website (if interested): http://pasofinosc.tripod.com

No offense, but this might be by design. There's no problem keeping in
touch with your "friend" if he/she is indeed your friend, rather than a
stranger you solicit referrals to/from via Usenet or e-mail!

Again, not so big if the friend is an actual friend...

Again, no offense- I'm all for "working the system" wherever possible,
but frankly you can't blame Tracfone for making the hoops hard enough to
jump through to discourage what they may feel is abuse...
