About 2-3 years back I saw a write up in a rec vehicle magazine that
would allow one to convert a candybar or flip phone to a full powered
unit like a bagphone. If I remember you plugged your phone into this
device and it amplified the 100 milliwatts to full power.
If someone can tell me who makes or distributes this device it would be
appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

My guess would be that if you are having a difficult time finding it
now, that it either did not work or it was not legal.

I've been using my DA4000 for many years, now. Very nicely built with
glass epoxy boards and first class RF components. It runs full duplex
with no need for any switching in both directions. Custom microwave
filters sort out the various parts of the bands, both 800 and 1900 in a
single unit, so it works on AMPS/800 Mhz Cellular and 1900 Mhz PCS
simultaneously. Legal output 3W on 800 Mhz, 2W on 1900 Mhz max. You'll
find, though, because the tower receives lots more signal from you, it
turns down your cellphone's digital output power, reducing the load on
the cellphone's battery in transmit. Talk time goes way up..(c;
I paid lots more for mine than they want, now. Sure works great in the
country where towers are long distances apart on AMPS.
