Hello,
I guess many of us heard this, a cellular phone can wipe up your hard
drive.
Please keep the cellphone away!
I understand that there could be some interference, but what about
losing data?
Is this a urban legend, or there's some truth in it.
I would appreciate some insight

Only if you drop the phone *on* the drive.
REPEATEDLY!

So if I drop the drive on the phone, will that work as well?

Theoretically.

My Motorola PEBL U6 actually does have a small magnet that keeps the flip
closed. I don't know how much damage it would cause, if any, if I left the
phone on my laptop (which I don't).

From what I've read in previous posts, it takes more than just a casual
attempt to demagnetize a hard drive. This includes something less than
a powerful magnet.
