Did you notice that he wants to run right back into the burning barn?

So what? I fail to see the problem with a contract, _IF_ you receive
reasonable compensation for it. Where's a sense in paying $599 for a phone
you could get for $300 on a 2-year contract that, worst-case scenario, costs
$175 to break? You can often buy a subsidized phone and subsequently break
the contract cheaper than buying an unsubsidized one. Other than the
dubious bragging rights of saying you're not a contract, I don't see the
logic.
Obviously on lower end phones, this doesn't hold true- a $100 unsubsidized
phone "free" with contract makes less sense UNLESS you actually like your
carrier. My last one-year renewal with T-Mobile (a year ago February) to
get a $300 WinMo phone for my wife for $50 was a no-brainer- I've been with
them since October 2001 and saw no "danger" in sticking with them another
year.
I guess if Verizon is your carrier, a contract seems scarier! ;-)

Me either, I would rather get the value. I need the best coverage I can
get so I know that unless something remarkable happens I will be staying
with that carrier so why not pay less?
