Well, I don't think that they are worth the hype. They are just like regular ipods except with phone features, but they are still ncie to have.

It depends if you want state of the art internet, mail, SMS, phone, Music, Videos, youtube, calculator, etc.
If you don't fancy these things, you can probobly just get a RAZR.

I do not text that much, I keep a little money on my flex account for any text that my come in.
theres apps that can be downloaded through installer or cydia that can make messageing better and easier.iphone on tmo, 8525 on tmo

Personaly, I would not buy it if you don't really have use of all its functions. Well I got a friend who has it and I already palyed with it. It's good fun one has to say, but it's just one more gadget I think and if you are woried about skratching it or damage it (I mean it's quite an expensive toy...) then at your place I would better choose a cheaper option that you are not worried about loosing or damaging.
Well that's for the conservative point of view but if it's becoming an obsession than go for it
