In a recent article by PC World, they name the iPhone the #5 tech disappointment of 2007. Read on...
#5. The Great, The Bad, The Ugly: Apple iPhone

Yes, we know. Sliced bread only wishes it were as great as the iPhone. And aside from minor flaws like a tiny touch keyboard and lack of Flash support, the phone itself is pretty terrific. But AT&T's broadband service? Definitely second-rate. And if you want to switch to a more reliable or faster carrier, you have to take your chances with the hackers.

The $600 price tag--which soon dropped by $200 and then was followed by a $100 quasi-rebate--didn't help. "I think the biggest debacle of 2007 is the iPhone pricing bait and switch," says Peggy Watt, a PC World contributing editor and professor of journalism at Western Washington University.

"People do expect tech prices to drop, but not as quickly as the iPhone did. Apple's response was pretty lame, too; a partial credit that couldn't be used for a lot of popular items (such as iTunes)."

Worse, those who did try to open their iPhones to other carriers or third-party applications found themselves owners of $600 iBricks when Apple tweaked the firmware to lock them out.

Memo to Apple: It's time to treat iPhones for what they really are--pocket computers with phone functions built in--and open them up the world. Just a thought.

May be it's technically a disappointment, but from decreasing price thing not necessarily it's a disappointment, it may also be trickle down effect!

It has been fantastic like any other Apple device I owned.

Furthermore, that article has so many flaws.

Saying the AT&T broadband network sucks and you have to try to take it to another carrier? Still going to be EDGE.

Next, saying you couldn't use the $100 rebate for iTunes, wrong. I ordered 2 iTunes gift cards from Apple.com/store using my $100 rebate.

For me, it was device of the year. I do so much on the go now. The iPhone also brings you these capabilities rather reasonably. $20. As just a consumer, blackberry plans are usually more money, so the iPhone is a good way for consumers to have their email, best web on a phone (in my opinion), etc.

I wasn't the least bit dissapointed in the phone. I worried before getting it, but it all worked now.

Now I won't say that other phones are bad. Not at all. There are some very interesting phones out there. Different things work for different people.

A disappointment of the year, hardly.

I have yet to hear anyone I know that has the phone say 'wow, this thing sucks'. However, all the hype and bull**** that surrounds the phone makes me not want one even more.

Even if the iPhone was on Verizon's 3G network for example, it's not that AT&T does not have 3G......the iPhone is not 3G CAPABLE. The next version will be and the first one should have been. Apple lemmings should rise up against Apple and say enough is enough. The fact that Apple dropped prices on people by $200 and only "refunded" $100 (which was BS because they get the $100 right back in iTunes) weeks after the original went on sale AND the people who got the 4G version got the shaft even more should have turned people off from the iPhone....but since Apple has such a "great rep." the Apple lemmings came right back to the cliff. Morons, all of you....honestly.....Apple has the best thing going for them.......idiot customers who have money and are dumb enough to buy next gen technology from day one....hahahahahahaha. You are saying it's the "device of the year" because you shelled out $400 for the thing and you probably have the 4G version too. WOW....you used your (actually it was still Apple's) $100 "refund" for iTunes gift cards? WHO CARES?

The price had not dropped that much.

Well, my statement was in accordance with the quoted words in OP's post:
