    AT&T 3G Network

First of all, lets start with the AT&T’s 3G network, which has so little pop it couldn’t punch its way out of a wet paper bag. Sure the iPhone 3G is fast, but what good does it do if you don’t have access to the 3G network in your area but still have to pay for the speeds? Wall Street Journal tech expert Walt Mossberg, an admitted iPhone fan, thinks AT&T’s poor 3G Network coverage really drags the product down:

Re: iPhone 3G Not So 3G

"The phone was a disappointment from the standpoint that it couldn't maintain a consistent connection with the 3G network...All the other features were fantastic," said Shaw, a sales professional living in a Cleveland suburb. But those other features weren't enough to prevent him from returning to Verizon and the BlackBerry after deciding the hassle just wasn't worth it.

As you can imagine, this doesn't sit well with many who eagerly bought the iPhone 3G to take advantage of 3G networks, which Apple promises are "twice as fast" as the EDGE networks in its advertising material. "Frankly, if I knew it was going to be like this, I wouldn't have paid the extra $10 a month," said iPhone 3G owner David Howard of Provo, Utah.

I have to agree with the 3G problem, but in addition to that, the connection to ANY service is crappy compared to my Verizon account I used to have. Absolutely horrible decision to go exclusive with ATT.

You'd think with the infrastructure ATT already has in place they'd been more prepared to provide good support to it's customers.

    BTW: I like your avatar

Well, you do have a point there. But many people who really do use 3G, live in a good location with good 3G coverage.
But I don't use 3G, PayG is for me to be honest.

I live in the nyc/nj area, and some friends of mine who have at&t and inherited at&t due to being cingular customers, say they always have problems, and their not iphone user. I had bad service with nextel some years ago when the fad push-talk was introduce, and it made me crazy when i had to use the phone to make or receive a call, i switch to Verizon, and i can honesty say i very rarely to never have a problem.

Re: iPhone 3G Not So 3G

Man I hate to here that some people are not happy with the Iphone 3g as I love mine. It is true that at&t is a little behind in getting the 3g network more expanded nation wide compared to verizon who use the cdma evdo data on their towers. I was a verizon customer for over 8 years and I even used their data modems up until august when they decided to throttle it back from 1.5m to 512k and the tower near me dropped to about 100k and when I called and complained they sent a engineer out to fix the tower. After two weeks they finally called and said it was a know issue in my area and could not be fixed. They did let be terminate all my services as they could not provide me with the service that I was paying for. Even when I use the edge network from at&t I get 135k on the Iphone 3g and 800k + when I am in the 3g network which is a lot better then the throttled 512k on verizon. I was a Voyager owner when I was with verizon which was their (Iphone) clone but it ain't even in the ball park with the real Iphone 2g or 3g. I just wish I had not spent $350 bucks on the voyager that I will never get back and changed to at&t and picked up the Iphone instead. That is over and done now and I can't go back and change the past. By the way my verizon signal dropped from 4 bars to 2 bars max so I was getting dropped calls like mad and again it was a "know issue" and now with at&t I get 4 to 5 bars all the time, Huh must not be a know issue with them! I am not against verizon at all but they they don't tell their customers that they have sold so many phones that they don't have enough cell towers to handle them all and they are not in a hurry to add any more. I am getting a new at&t tower just 2 miles from my house now and it may be a 3g tower I hope. Sorry about the trouble you are having with your Iphones and may you have good luck with verizon as I didn't.

not just having trouble with staying connected to 3G while staying stationary. My iphone often drop calls shortly after someone answers, even when I have full bars. I have 2.1 so it makes no sense.
