I like changing the ringtone on my iPhone often. I don’t want to pay for ringtones, I rather make my own for free. I have tried it a bunch of different ways. The easiest way that I found is to use the ringtone tool at mobilespin

Everything is done online (there is no software to download and install)

Here is how to do it:
1- Go to mobilespin dot net and click on the Ringtone Tool
2- Upload your MP3 or WAV file
3- Pick the start and end points of the ringtone you want to make and click on “Clip and Convert”
4- In the download page, select “M4R(for iPhone)” from the “Select format” drop down and click on “Download”
5- Once the file is downloaded your MAC or PC, import it to iTunes and Sync it to your iPhone and you are done!

Note: If you are uploading an MP3 or WAV file from your iTunes library into the ringtone tool, you have to make sure that it is a non-DRM file.
    Enjoy your free ringtones!

Jailbreak your iphone, and downlaod from cydia. There are a lot of ring tones to use. I am using Air raid Siren as my ringtone and when my phone ring people around me will look around and see what's going on

It's even easier if you already have the file with no need to edit it. You can simple import it into your iTunes music library, right click it, and select 'create AAC version', then drag the newly created aac version from the iTunes music folder to the desktop. It will create a file on your desktop with an .m4a extension, simply rename the file so that the extension is .m4r, then drag that file back into iTunes onto the word "Library" on the upper left part of the iTunes screen. I noticed that you have to have the 'title' section of the summary (right click, select properties, summary tab). That must be there or iTunes will not sync it to the phone (I think because that's what the iPhone uses for the file name, hence, no file name, it won't load it).

Heh, I use guitar pro. Will the iPhone allow a midi file to used directly as a ringtone, or does it have to be converted to some other format. And, what's to change, as small as midi files are, you could upload thousands.
